baby Hoplias aimara ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've not read of any breeding habits documented on aimara. And since they live in mostly areas with current, idk if they form a pair like other hoplias are known to such as malabaricus. Malas stay together and defend the baby, I believe the female usually patrols a little more and the male stays next to the babies; or maybe it's the other way around... Aimaras are said to also be caught in calm waters, to me it'd make sense they go there to breed since I don't think rapids is a place for baby aimara, and from the vids on YouTube, I don't see much space for two large aimara to be next to eachother with a bunch of fry.

had to separate them a while back , they were starting to really tear each other up . they would grab on to each other and bite and hold and shake like a dog .

got things under control now , but ya no way they can live together any longer . im trying to sell one now in the canada market place listing no bites so far lol .

speaking of bites this one almost got me the other day while i was trying to take clippings from my java fern . shot right to the surface , luckily i had just taking my hand out in the nick of time . like seriously , just missed me by a hair lol

your prob right moe !! lol
i managed to get a couple better pics today . anybody care to guess as to what variant they could be ? first pic is with flash , next two are no flash

heres a few more pics . im really enjoying these guys . you can see a couple scales missing on this guy , not sure how it happened . once in a while it happens there pretty rough and tumble . i dont think in this case it was the other fish though not that i seen anyways . check out the blue brownish color coming through in some of the pics they really are a beautifully ugly fish :D

Nice! It looks like you have the VZ variant

Well with just two it was inevitable unless they paired up. The one pictured is the one you're keeping?

Thanks guys , hey moe , im not sure which one i will keep . this one is the bigger of the two by a hardly noticable amount and maybe a little more aggressive. But the other one seems to have a little bit better color . so im not tottal sure which one i will keep there both awesome lol.

I'd say whichever is more personable keep. They'll both get big eventually. Both can have potential for color.

And like with girls lol, personality is what keeps someone around, looks get old eventually vs interaction which is something you will always search for

sooo mean  and pissed  all the time trust me this didnt take much provocation lol

i have never owned such an aggressive fish , and i have owned a lot of fish .

this guy will definitely try and take you fingers off lol .or any other appendage that may enter his tank lol

i hope the silly cat that takes a stroll on the tank every once in a while doesnt ever dip its tail in by accident

How big is he? Still in the divided tank with the other aimara on the other side?
