Doesn't seem like you have gotten a ton of growth from them. How much have they grown in the year you have had them?

well they were about 4 inches when i got them last year in june , so i guess about 9 inches .
there known to be a little slower growers then say , silver arowanas or peacock bass or something like that . which i know from my own experience .

in my mind its a good thing as it buys a little more time before needing a huge tank .

i suppose i could have maybe got them to grow a little quicker if i had of power fed them a little more . they are fed pretty good though so i think its just that they may be a little slower growers then some of the other big fish that are more commonly kept

Not sure what size tank you have then in but that could impact it too. I got mine at 4in in march and and it's close to 10in now so averaging just over 1in a month.

there in a 4 x 4 square now . i had them each in there own 40 breeder and 65 gallon for a while when smaller .

im not to hung up on growing them as fast as possible anyway , as it may not be the best for the fish in the long run . lets see a pic of yours with a ruler or tape messure lol i know its easy to call 8 or 9 , 10 lol maybe yours is just growing faster or your feeding more who knows dif temp dif area of collection some maybe just grow faster idk

Will take pics in a week when I move him. I have a 8x8 piece of cermedia that he likes to sit on and he's bigger than that. I have been feeding him small amounts daily except when I've tried to train him in other foods. He's growing much faster than my last aimara. This one is from Suriname when the other was from Venezuela.

did you get him from below water ? i have been watching your threads but i know there were times when i was sure mine were a certain size until i actually measured them with a tape lol not trying to say your lying or anything lol but lets see for sure i just measured yesterday thats how i know i will try and get another tape pic too ;)

Keep doing what you're doing. They look very healthy! Proof is in the photos.

It's always deceiving when you just eye ball it. I've been off by like 2in before. I'm in the US so I don't deal with Below Water. Got mine from Wes at Rare Fish. Below Water is a great vendor though. They were very well know when I got into the hobby 18 years ago.

Oh ok for some reason i thought you were from canada . i know below water had some listed as from surinam around the same time i got mine and since , so i wondered if that may have been were you got yours .

I know a lot of posters are sugesting mine looks like its from Venezuela but im not so sure . it has alot of the strong marking type pattern simalar to the ampara type when its not so pissed off and turned more black like the last pics i posted . you will see this if you look back at some other pics through out my thread .

Also they have a real copper kind of color to them that the pics dont always show and these guys change colors rapidly and a lot from day to day .

When i look at other Venezuela types they seem to lack they pattern of bars that these guys have .

Also the vendor i bought them from swears up and down there from Columbia. Which they do come from as well . the only reason i maybe kinda question weather or not this is for sure correct is becauae i once emailed oliver at below water to ask him about the different variants , he was pretty addement that there wernt any aimra coming out of columbia and i thought he was some what of an expert soo ...

Who the heck really knows for sure i love them is all i can say and they are extreamly beastly lol
