Dude that turtle friggan ROCKS!!! i know the common snappers near me dont have humps on their shells...

Yeah that photo is a Common Snapper. They're pretty common (no pun intended) around where I live. I don't know about pulling geese down and eating them but they will catch a small duck or duckling every now and then. Their aggressive reputation is a little stretched. I've snorkled in lakes and ponds around here and you can swim right up to them. And I mean big ones, the size of trash can lids. They are very shy in the water and will swim away as soon as they see you. Now approached on land, that's a different story. Don't mess with a mama snapper on the mission of looking for a place to lay her eggs.
I've had them as pets before and they're pretty cool. I rescued one about two years ago in the fall that got ran over by a tractor. He was pretty chill as I nursed him back to health and never tried to bite me....much. In the spring I released him into my 1,500 gallon game fish pond. He was there for about a week and then disappeared. Water turtles to have homing instincts like pigeon. So maybe he went home back to his orginal pond.

They are so fun to keep. My first pet ever was a snapper hatchling I called "shredder"
it grew over a span of 7 years and I kept it in a Kidy pool when it outgrew the tank.
I used to feed mine very unusual and downright sadistic
live prey items. Giant Bullfrogs, Mice, Shrews, BIG snakes, big Carps, Human Babies. Etc.
Before anyone goes all "pita" on me I was only 12 and didn't have insight to see it as cruel at the time...or maybe i did....
(I'm kidding about the babies BTW)

but I DONT HAND FEED HIM....... he hunts it on his own..... i put TONS of food in his tank for him.. and it is really fun to watch him stalk his prey

) The hunting and stalking is the fun I was refering to. And you will probably have him till your my age. (26)woah....i might have to give him to one of my cousins when they get a lil older...hehe...so i can go to college and not have to worry about him and know he is alright...and you know what....i dont know who will take care of my oscar when im in college
