Some people are overly idealistic and have huge sticks up their naughty places (*cough cough krzr3000! cough*). Yes, we all love animals, but although we can afford initial cost and ongoing housing cost, we can't all afford $100 antibiotics. And since this is the second time the lizard gets sick, who's to say it won't be a lifelong recurring sort of thing?
I think you did the right thing. When you buy an animal you're trusting that the vendor is selling you something healthy and in good condition. It's the same reason why people won't buy arowanas with damaged barbels or iguanas with missing tails or flowerhorns with no nuchal bumps. If the vendor sells you something sick, it's not your responsibility.
Wouldn't you exchange a malfunctioning TV?
And the baby beardie looks uber cute, by the way!!! I always wanted one, but I can only imagine the electricity bill that a 110 degree Fahrenheit basking area produces.

a malfunctioning TV is not a living breathing thing that depends on it's caregiver to keep it alive and healthy, that was one of the worst things i have ever read on this entire forum..wow.
when you buy a new pet, that new pet becomes your responsability..regardless of what you paid for it. does a $5 anole not deserve to live..just because you paid 5 bucks for it? come on now. these reptiles cannot feed themselves in our care, they can not clean up after themselves, they can not go out and get themselves meds when they are sick, thats what we as owners do for them..well..some of us it seems.
dzb, good luck with your new beardie, i do not agree at all with what you did..but its done. now hopefully your beardie doesn't get sick..
i also wanted to ask, what kind of UVB light were you using for the WD?
krzr3000;2956894; said:Again with the attacks from the dude who has been here for 2 months!!! I think you are barking up the wrong tree, to get philosophical appearing to not know much about herps. Or knowing dzb's irresponsible past threads and actions....
If you think its cool to buy these animals, then when they get sick not take care of YOUR RESPONSIBILITY then you are alone my friend. No one will agree with you...
Juxtaroberto;2956911; said:First of all I'd like to point out that more ignorant things have been said on this forum. MUCH more ignorant things.
And second of all, being a pet owner, especially pets that, unlike cats or dogs, are confined to their enclosure 24/7, you don't get to take the biocentric high road. One of the things that no one ever takes into account is the human mind. Yes, ideally the owner has to provide all necessities, but does it make any sense at all to spend $100 on a $5 anole, or a $15 beardie, or whatever? Unless it's a magical anole that your grandmother asked you to take care of in her deathbed, it's not worth that much. And yes, it sucks, and it bursts your pretty technocolored bubble, but that's the reality of life.
Did you know that in times of little food lions will let their cubs starve rather than let the adults starve? And don't say they aren't the same thing, because humans are also animals, whether you like it or not.
Am going to spend $100 dollars on meds for a chronically sick animal, or $100 on my electricity bill?
PS: To dzb, exactly HOW much does the elctric bill come to each month?

Juxtaroberto;2956924; said:Again with the two months thing! Last time I checked, this site isn't organized into a caste system based on seniority. I don't care if you've been here for 100 YEARS, it doesn't change the fact that you feel the chronic need to find the worst in everything. It's like calling the glass half empty, and then taking a dump on it.
