Ban on big Cats...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The way I see it, if a guy purchases a fish like that from an LFS, the person selling it to them should be a little outgoing and go ahead and ask if they can see their set-up sometime "since it must be huge to house that species of fish". Anyone who's got a tank that large should be willing to show it off. If they're reluctant, then you don't have to feel bad about being reluctant or refusing to sell it to them, since they probably don't have a big tank anyway. I think that the best way to go about this is for LFS's to require proof of their possession of a tank large enough to house these animals and proof that that animal will be going into said large tank.

Sorry that wouldn't work for me... I'm not showing off my collection to some cheese ball from the petshop... I have my tanks for me and my family not for some stranger to come and look at and then tell everyone in the world whats in my garage...NOPE not a good plan... i'm all for permits

Not as simple as you might think, considering alot of the people selling these types of fish have no clue about them. The Store I purchased my RTC from had him labeled as a SunCat...I actually ASKED where the suncat was and the lady pointed out the RTC and said there it is... It's crazy that Stores arn't informed to begin with so I would actually have to say that permits should be required as it would force people to actually do their homework to own these things.

When I bought 5 TSN's from an LFS they didn't even ask me if i knew how big they got... just bagged em up... Buyers can't be informed if the sellers arn't held accountable for learning about the fish they sell

tsktsk... stores up there in ur area shud be closed. It is ones responsbilty to inform buyers.

I didn't say that you had to let them barge into your house. I just said for them to provide proof of a large tank, whether it be pictures with you standing in front of them or the people at the lfs actually seeing them, or somewhere in between. It's not a fool-proof method, but its much less expensive than requiring people to apply for a permit. Also, what are the criteria to get a permit? You'd have to prove that you have the housing to accommodate such a large animal, along with being responsible enough to know the kind of damage the release of a fish like that could have on the environment, right? Sounds like the same thing to me, just my way would be less expensive.
