Not as simple as you might think, considering alot of the people selling these types of fish have no clue about them. The Store I purchased my RTC from had him labeled as a SunCat...I actually ASKED where the suncat was and the lady pointed out the RTC and said there it is... It's crazy that Stores arn't informed to begin with so I would actually have to say that permits should be required as it would force people to actually do their homework to own these things.

When I bought 5 TSN's from an LFS they didn't even ask me if i knew how big they got... just bagged em up... Buyers can't be informed if the sellers arn't held accountable for learning about the fish they sell

:iagree: in the UK stick down Red snakeheads, (Channa micropeltes) as well the problem starts with the idiot selling them.
oscars are the same as it goes any big fish

I think other than a permit, the way to handle the monster fish is to have them registered with a microchip in them (like they do with dogs - hand held scanner type). The owner could then be found when the fish is dumped and caught, the owner then could also be held accountable.

why would you ban these great fish ???

No one wants them banned, just controlled...mainly to reduce the amount of monster fish that go home with the WRONG buyer.

Not everyone has a big, beautiful tank like you, John. :D

Random side note: John, I think it's a good thing that your tankcam link is blocked at work because I think I would be filing for unemployment if I could watch it here. ;)

well i think they should do something about the big cats

its a joke that someone with a 60g can just walk into a shop and buy a RTC or TSN

how many RTC or TSN are imported each year and how many of them live to over 2yrs

Create a required licensing process. Require a basic class and testing just like you would for a hunting license, gun permit, drivers license, etc...
