Ban the poster not the thread  This is a fish forum.......I realize a lot of people like dogs (myself included) but does this need to keep being brought up?

Oh by the way in my brothers neighborhood this past summer a little girl was mauled by a pitbull. Not saying they should be banned or anyuthing but that is my experience with them. About two days prior to this my brother had seen the dog in his backyard. Thank god he didn't have my nephew out there.

I have to totally disagree with you on this one. All of the things you listed are totally inanimate objects (other then the fish) that will cause zero harm to anyone unless a human is involved. Pits on the other hand act, react, and think for themselves. Yes the way its raised has tons to do with how the dog acts, however you must admit if the animal wasnt nurtured properly by a human it would act naturally and that is a dangerous thing. And like said before there are alot of dogs out there that are more agressive, especially small dogs but again its like comparing apples and oranges. A bite from a little wienner dog might not require much more then a band-aid where as a large dog such as a pit with those powerful jaws can, and have in the past, put you six feet under.

I agree with you, dogs are thinking and reactive creatures and if the "animal wasn't nurtured properly by a human" it could act in a dangerous manner. But the problem I have is that I can say that about GSDs, rotties, dobermans, dogo canarios, dogo argentine, akitas, bullmastifs, tosa inu, cane corso.............and the list could go on and on.

People just want an scapegoat. You could eradicate pits from the planet and it wouldn't make any difference, we would just find a new reactive and thinking weapon.

A loose/stray dog is a dead dog in my eyes. Thankfully, your nephew wasn't out there, but why didn't you call in this stray pitbull? A stray dog is a bad thing.

Sunpoe- I think you're right on the money. I have had a few of the dogs you mentioned (most recent being a 100lb akita). They were all very well behaved dogs. The only time Fuji (my old akita) got aggressive was in defense of me (from another dog, a neighbors K9 unit, and the other dog bit and pulled me of my bike before she left my yard to take care of that mutt). But other than that she was perfect...intimidating, but perfect. But any of the dogs you mentioned, if unattended are dangerous things. And you are right. if its not pitbulls it will be GSD so on and so fourth.

(I have a problem with GSD attacking me...three different dogs, three different times)

lol
useless thread...
been discussed before, why bring it up again?
:screwy:
dogs are man's best friend, and therefore his most dangerous enemy.
it's always been opinions against opinions and it'll always be that way.

is this :spam: ?

well it was my brother that saw that dog not me :) hence why I was glad my nephew wasn't out there. I was unaware they had seen one until after after the girl was attacked then my brother told me about seeing the dog. The owner of it lived in the neighborhood also. And sunpoe you pretty much took the words right outta my mouth that tasy can of spam you posted.

yeah up here in canada, the province of ontario banned pit bulls.
thats the most rediculous law ever. its like racism but aimed toward a breed of dog.
Do not outlaw a breed of dog for the actions of its owners.
Its ignorant, narrow minded and a very uneducated law that has been aimed at the wrong animal. They should pass a law that makes owners more responsible for the actions/training of their pets.
My mother has been a nurse for over 35 yrs and to this day still says over 75% of the people who come in due to dog bites were from german shepherds. im not stating that one breed is worse than the other, im just stating that any dog will attack if abused or trained to do so by some hillbilly who has to use a dog to compensate for his problems.

I really don't want to get in this conversation since I think it's pointless but they don't they already have laws on how animals need to be treated. I could have sworn they do. I guess if we want to raise eveyones taxes to police pet owners then it would be cool with all of you people suggesting this. You want to have monthly visits from the dog cops to make sure everyone who owns a dog is caring for it properly?!?!? I think it's hard enough to try and prevent humans from harming other humans. If you're so concerned with it then quit your job and go start a doggy responsibility program or something.

Alot of larger towns already have doggie cops or pet cops but they're only really called when an animal is mistreated..

yeah I know I was kinda using sarcasm to get my point across do they want thousands and thousands of animal police to be hired around the country to check on all the animals. I'm also guessing there are more people who own pets than criminals also. so it would be a LOT of animal cops. Just doesn't seem feasible. The only way is to call when you know somebody is mistreating an animal.
