banjo catfish

Those guys are cool. They remind me of mini wobbegong sharks.

Thanks .... had to look up what a wobbegong shark was ... those things are sweet. Other than the fact of Saltwater vs. Freshwater, the two species (Wobbegong and Banjo's) share alot of characteristics. Mind you the banjo's though aren't ambush predator/carnivours .... although now a part of me wishes they were.
As for the banjo's ... I'm glad I've made the changes I have (thanks to so many of you's out there) and have a more compatible living arrangement for them, and with the addition of a couple of new buddies. Once they've grown, maybe I might luck out and do some breeding .... one can only dream.
Till then I'll just keep this thread going.

If you like wobbegong sharks and you like your banjos but lament their non-predatory behavior, then a Chaca chaca cat is probably the perfect monster for you. :)

Dang ... kinda wish I'd a heard about these guys a while back. Had no idea these things existed ... I'll be keeping my eye out for one. The PH thing is pretty peculiar ... it'd be something to actually look at a little more closely if one was to acquire one or two. Something for the future (should one appear in my travels ... if its meant to be, it'll appear in time). As for now, I'll keep it a little simpler and stick with the banjo's.
But you were correct on assuming I'd like the Chaca Chaca Catfish ... I DO I DO .... thanks for the eye opener.

Saw those Pacman's when I was looking up the Chaca Chaca ... but can't get anything that large until our basement is developed (one of these years) after what happened to my neighbor across the street (his 180G broke a joist ... cracked his tank and drained the water when he was gone one weekend) I'm not permitted anything larger than a 55G.

Meanwhile she has a Piano in our dining room (I wish I could swap it out for a 90G). So no Pacman's for me ... but yep cool fish.

LOL on the piano

Hey if the piano is gone ... I know I could easily put a 90G there. It's the sturdiest spot in the house, I was so paranoid with putting the piano in the house that I had a couple of people come advise me on it.
(Unfortunately for me) The piano is something my wife and 9 yr old son enjoy together. Although its a conundrum for him as he now knows that we could have a 90G there ... LOL
In the long run this is probably better for me. As I saw with the wobbegong shark, many characteristics of all these species are shared (my guys are just more docile minis) ... This gives me more time to learn proper housing and care, as I've come this far and just recently feel like I still know absolutely nothing. My two Banjo's have come along way in my learning curve, so it'll be doubly special to see how these new 2 develop in more adequate surroundings. I've already noticed that they tend to stay out of the sand more often, the Fluval LED has made night viewing easier and more enjoyable.

They were sharing the base with my Mexican Orange Dwarf Lobster ... but sadly it passed away a few days ago. Of the 5 aquatic species that first got me wanting to learn more, I've now lost 2. Any other fish that came or went, were usually just fish in the beginning. But still got my Syno, Senegal and miraculously these 2 banjo's (now 4).

Now mind you should I do come across a Chaca Chaca Cat .... well I just want to be ready this time :)

Update on my Banjo's ...

Gotta admit with the set-up now in this tank, I rarely see any sign of my original 2 Banjo's, the new ones are almost always visible though. But the other day, one of the originals came out to say "Hi" and I was blown away with its growth
The tank now .... java moss has gone out of control in a way, but the Banjo's seem to like its shade.

The newer/younger two, they spend most of their time out of the substrate it seems. Whereas my original two rarely even show me their tails anymore. I can go weeks with out seeing any sign of them anymore ...

So I was thrilled when this one decided to come out and say hello the other day.

Here's a couple pics of 2 of them together, drastic change in size difference since I put them.

Later on when the tank light was off, I was able to get a couple more pics
