its more like really loud vibrations than anything else. and IME TSNs will do it as small a 3".

It's funny ... with all of my Cats I hardly EVER hear it... only when I piss them off (take them out of the water... or I try to take them out of the water)

thank gosd for this thread. I thought i was going barmy. I got my jag cat on Saturday and every so often i hear this strange noise. Almost like a toad. It happened once while i was clsoe to the tank and managed to feel the vibrations but didn't have a clue what it was. I went and checked all the electrics and found nothing amiss. The only thing i coudl think of was the fish as it started when i introduced it but it made no sense. Thankfully this thread solves my problem.
