^Paw, the very last sentence of his very first post^
I honestly don't understand what your point is to me, about that sentence.
...that the op says "sadly"? that he "thinks" the O will be killed over the next few days= it's not 100% sure?
or, you're just tying it in to the next statement you make?

I've understood "using other fish to displace aggression" as: many dithers and different species and/or heavy stocking which makes tanks busy with high numbers of active distractions. Those "target" fish provide enough confusion to aggressors, that no particular fish gets fully targeted. It's DISPERSING aggression, over a broad populace. Lots of fish, little impact on individuals. "Target fish" are fast and/or many.

That would be dither fish, not target fish. Two different things, not synonymous.

Thanks for the separation of terms. you even refrained from using the word ignorant.
I didn't consider target fish as= acceptable death. I equated targets with reduced mortalities, not chosen ones.

Ideally, a target fish would be big and tough enough for a separate pair to focus their aggression on and suffer minimal injury, but not aggressive enough themselves to go after the pair. However, cichlid aggression is obviously variable and can change whenever, especially if the pair becomes large themselves.

I got no bones to pick here. I just keep a few cichlids and am putting in my 2 cents. It's not my tank. If you want to keep/breed this stuff, sooner or later you're gonna have some losses.

aclockworkorange, You're right. Unpredictable losses DO happen.
As such, they usually aren't photographed & accompanied by a countdown-guess to the "surprise".

Maybe the op can forgive my ignorant hope in wanting to learn & hear of alternate aggressive breeding techniques.
Anyway, interest was sparked for reasons beyond this thread. Op's almost like an accidental target or something.
These things can not be planned for...........

I'm not a breeder by any means but I do have a pond with alot of different fish some aggressive. I have large pvc pipes in there to provide hiding spots and it seems to work well.uploadfromtaptalk1348459313248.jpguploadfromtaptalk1348459378079.jpg

jhutch should get all his fish and tanks taken away until he knows what the hell he is doing.

ok this makes sense, another ignorant person...

I hope it all backfires on jhutch so he learns a valuable and expensive lesson and leaves the hobby.

i had an expensive lesson once when hydro fracking contaminated my water and killed off 122 tanks of fish(a good 20-30k down the drain so to speak)its only money. im not an amateur by any means and you obviously dont know what youre talking about. you shouldnt open your ignorant mouth without stating a reason for the ignorant comments.

looks like a nice setup, i use the pool as well, how's it working for you? I like the pvc idea, never thought about that. I had a bunch of lily pads in my pool but the plecos dug all the dirt out of the pots so i scrapped that idea.

Give tin foil barbs a try as dither fish , they are so fast and so annoying to other fish that everybody wants a piece of em but none manage to get it.

This I have used many times very successfully with aggressive breeding pair.
