Bearded Dragon won't eat HELP PLEASE!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dunno about you, but I'd rather have good husbandry and a healthy dragon than bad husbandry and a dragon you constantly take to the vet.

I don't know why you guys debate so much about how husbandry is important and how it affects animals. If you have good husbandry and a sick animal, something is wrong with it. If you have bad husbandry and a sick animal, something is wrong with you.

Lets not debate about specifics...

The animal is sick. The owner would do well to take it to a vet. If her husbandry needs to be fixed, she can do that also. But why are you so against taking a sick animal to the vet?

yes

I'm not saying the animal shouldn't go to the vet now. I said constantly. She should take it soon, see whats up, and fix her husbandry. When thats done, she probably wont ever need to again.

The animal wouldn't be sick if it was properly taken care of. She feeds it the wrong food in the first place, has a 110 temp throughout the cage, and ground walnut substrate. I don't even wanna know how small the tank is.

I'm not a vet and I havent seen her dragon. It may or may not have parasites or some disease. What I'm trying to say is that a healthy animal can boot these problems out of its body and laugh about it. And you can't have a healthy animal with bad husbandry. If she gives it the medicine or whatever it needs now (thats IF something is wrong with it) and leaves it at that, it will only happen again.

But from what she has said, I just think its an unhealthy animal and can be improved. She hasn't exactly told us much about the thing.

Parasites was my next guess as well. Started her on meds today was just wondering if i was on the right track with my thinking or if i was missing something. Her enclosure has not changed and I do know that she is dehydrated and I am giving her water with a syringe to try to rectify that issue, and a large bowl of water that she will lay in on and off a couple times a day. She seems very happy and alert to her surroundings

your giving meds to a reptile and you dont even know what it has????

I dont think they have a medicine for bad husbandry. Did you even go to the vet?

I seriously doubt there is a physical disease or parasite in your dragon.

Also, it would be great if you could tell us more of the conditions of your setup, as well as pics of both the cage and the dragon. That ALWAYS makes the thread much easier to deal with when you do that from the start.

IT SEEMS TO ME THAT ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS ARGUE ABOUT WHO IS RIGHT AND WHAT I AM DOING WRONG. I POSTED A QUESTION TO SEE IF THERE WAS SOMETHING I WAS MISSING OR IF ANYONE HAD RUN INTO THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. IF THEY HAD ANY OTHER IDEAS ABOUT WHAT I COULD TRY TO DO FOR HER. FOR YOUR INFORMATION I AM VERY WELL EDUCATED IN THE FIELD OF ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND I AM NOT JUST SOME HACK THAT IS TRYING TO SAVE THE LIFE OF SOMETHING I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. AS A MATTER OF FACT, I HAVE BEEN A CERTIFIED VET TECH SINCE 1995 WORKING WITH EVERYTHING FROM LIZZARDS TO HORSES AND EVERTHING IN BETWEEN. IF YOU REALLY CARED ABOUT THE ISSUE AT HAND, BY NOW YOU SOULD BE ASKING IF THERE WAS ANY IMPROVEMENT WITH HER SITUATION AND NOT WORRIED ABOUT WHAT SIZE HER HABITAT IS.
LOCO.....
#1 I USE GROUND WALNUT SHELLS NOT SAND FOR THE SIMPLE REASON YOU STATED WITH YOUR FIRST RESPONSE TO ME. DONT WANT TO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH SAND IMPACTION (THATS A BOWEL OBSTRUCTION TO US IDIOTS)
#2 I NEVER SAID THAT THE TEMP IN HER HABITAT WAS 110 THRU OUT, YOU JUST ASSUMED I WAS CLUELESS AND HAD NO IDEA WHAT A "BASKING AREA" WAS. ( YOU KNOW THAT FLAT SPOT ON THE HOT END OF THE TANK..... YES TANK NOT SHOE BOX)
#3 UP UNTIL 3 WEEKS AGO SHE WAS DOING GREAT, HEALTHY AS A HORSE SO TO SPEAK, THAT IS WHY I WAS SO CONCERNED. HER DIET HAS NOT CHEAGED AND IT HAS WORKED FOR HER SO FAR. YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY, IF IT AINT BROKE DON'T FIX IT!
#4 THE MED THAT SHE IS ON IS PERFECTLY SAFE AND YOU MUST THINK I AM SOME KIND OF IDIOT IF YOU THINK I WOULD JUST RANDOMLY GIVE A MEDICATION TO ANYTHING. I DO KNOW WHAT I AM DOING WHEN IT COMES TO THAT. ALSO, I SPOKE WITH MY VET ON FRIDAY AND SHE (YES SHE) SAID THAT EVERYTHING I WAS DOING WAS CORRECT AND I MADE THE RIGHT DECISION TO GIVE IT TO HER. IF THERE WAS NO IMPROVEMENT BY MONDAY THEN SHE WOULD SEE HER TO RUN BLOOD WORK.

AS FOR THE REST OF YOU......
SHE SEEMS BETTER TODAY, SHE IS EATING SOME BETTER AND CHASING THE CRICKETTS AROUND NOW NOT JUST LETTING THEM CRAWL ON HER HEAD, SHE IS MUCH MORE ALERT AND HER COLOR IS STARTING TO COME BACK. STILL NOT DRINKING AS MUCH AS I WOULD LIKE BUT I AM MISTING HER SEVERAL TIMES A DAY TO TRY TO KEEP HER HYDRATED. AND KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED THAT SHE CONTINUES TO IMPROVE
