Beautiful 'white' freshwater datnoid. ID Please!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wrote it because i have been told not to say anything bad about any fish posted so they are all great not a bad fish on the forum

have you really.. or have you been asked (nicely under the circumstances) to read the thread and try to see others' opinion before you are increadibly rude? :)

I can see why all these ID my dat pisses you of, we are all tired of them but you have the choice not to answer.. ;)

I can understand that the ID posts WOULD and DO piss off the experienced Dat keepers and I made apologies for that in advance, but part of the reason we have a forum is so that experienced and inexperienced fish keepers alike can consult each other for advice rather than having to resort to guess work or researching info not based on actual real life experiences.

Tired of these posts/questions or not, I appreciate those who have taken the time to answer and I would return the favor some day myself in another field given the chance!

No disrespect but that's not an NTT it's an oddball IT. NTTs have much thinner bars, this chart should be helpful if you haven't already seen it. :)

^ you are probably correct, upon further analysis I decided that as well. The guy at the LFS wants $60 for this however. He compared it to the 'gold datnoid' on liveaquaria.com and said he'd have to get at least $60 to justify what he paid for it.... (altho that is NOT where he purchased the fish in question from himself)

That's pretty damn steep for what looks like a 2" at best IT, in CA we can get those for $20 and I've heard lower once or twice. I'd shop around a little bit for a better deal unless you're really attached in which case I'd say go for it. Some people here thought I paid too much for a NGT that was blind in one eye but I'm not regretting it one bit because it's a fish I really like. Go with your gut but I'm almost positive you can get a better deal somewhere else.

Yeah this one is about 4" I'd say actually, but the price does seem some what steep, altho Ive never come across this dat in a LFS in over 6 serious years in the hobby... is the 'Gold Datnoid' advertised on LiveAquaria.com the same as this one pictured?? If so, and the LFS is charging the same price, then I wouldn't have to rush into this purchase....

The dat live aquaria has pictured is an indo dat same as this. But the scientific name given is for a thin bar datnoid.

As far as price $60 for that size is over priced. I was able to pic up 4" pellet trained indos for under $25 by shopping around. Regularly priced from $35-50, though prices can vary greatly by location.
