Lima shovelnose are pretty cool and easy to get to eat frozen foods, jack dempseys are pretty cool, sun catfish, bichirs, or cichla ocellaris are all good choices. It just depends on what your into. Like if your into really aggressive then I'd go wolf fish or payara scomberiodes. But if your into pretty but large, then go with cichlids. It just depends how devoted you are and your preferences.

I'm thinking I would prefer more passive, especially for a start. Once I get more experience, then I am definitely curious about the more aggressive species.

Ty for the suggestions, will do more research :)

A 135 is a pretty decent size tank and a little too big for just 1 fish in my opinion. I would think having 1 large fish and a few smaller species would be a nice compliment. For example, maybe 1 Oscar, a couple of convicts, a couple of firemouths and 1-2 parrot cichlids? That way you would have a decent number of fish with a variety of sizes and personalities.

yeah you could do the midas along with a few bichirs and they should be fine, and another fish that no one has suggested yet is a datnoid, especially if your tank is 6x2x2, which is a 180

A 135 isnt that big and we have members on this site that keep single fish in much larger tanks

Well then I think 6x2x2 is actually ok for a jardini. But if you don't want a jardini then there are lots of choices but here are the ones I personally like best. Midas, Jaguar, Puffer of some sort, Bichirs, Knife fish (NOT a clown knife).

So I found out the dimensions. 6x1.5x2. So a lil smaller. I dont know how to convert size to gallons, but still big either way.

So far, I am leaning towards a datnoid and a bichir for sure. I really like some of the suggested cichlids, like the Midas and JD. Any thoughts on how well these guys would do together? I would probably buy them all young and grow em out together, heard that was a good way to do it. Also, if I wanted a bottom dweller cleaning type, any suggestions? I know theres a billion types of pleco lol, but my bf told me I should ask.
