My wider wet/dry filters use floor stripper pads. They're made of the same polyethylene plastic but are a little stiffer. They work great for large filters pushing alot of water since they don't compress under pressure as much as scrubbies or other materials do. They're available in a wide range of diameters and thickness. And, I've found them on occassion for US.99 cents for a 5-pack (ebay). Here's a pic of the pads, from a New Zealand company. So, you shouldn't have a problem finding them locally.

BTW, who's ripping you off on the FX5? I bought 3 of them, off ebay, for $185 + $38 shipping/each.

I have gone to some of the local businesses and asked if I can take the centers of their pads. They look at you funny, but generally say ok:D I get a TON of the centers from work and I have found that they work very well.

My next sump for 2x125g tanks is going to be mostly floor scrubber material, local business die cuts the pads so I have an unlimited supply of scraps at my disposal:D

now if I could just make time to put all the parts together:(

How about packaging them and offering to MFK's that can't find 'em?

a good place to get the pot scrubbers dirt cheap is from the dollar store suppliers online, ill try to find the links that i found before. you can get them for as low as 40 cents a pack, the only catch is you have to order in bulk. one place only had a minimum order of 50 dollars though. others were a minimum order of 300 dollars.
