Best cheap bio-media

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
what I do is just every couple weeks stop by the dollar stores and buy them out I usually only spend 10-15 bucks but everyonce inawhile I spend alot more depends on what they have.. this way I dont have to go out and try to find them all at once plus budget wise its much better.. I like it this way to because then I just add alittle more media all the time allowing bacteria to partially colonize the new stiff before I pt mroe in

I went to Big lots last night and bought all 17 (6 packs) of pot scrubbers they had at .79 cents each pack. The cashier ask WTF I was doing with em. Told her, the manager over hear and said he has at least another case of the in back. So I set up a wet/dry on my 65g piranha tank, used 53 srubbies total. Biggest problem I had was arranging the so the colors would look cool.

In the past, I have used plastic drinking straws. Cut them up into 1/2"-1" sizes. Worked really well, and cheap. Just got to spend time cutting them up :)

I heard this somewhere too, there only useful for wet&Dry.

They work great submerged too.

Their efficiency doesn't change under water.

Thanks for the clarification Dr Joe! Saved me a redesign on my sump as half of my scrubbies are submerged.
