you paid $100 for a 18gallon rubbermaid tub, some sponges, a used bathroom trashcan, an old tupperware container and 2 sticks of pvc....

goddamn.. let me know when you are in the market for some old socks, 7-11 cups, hot sauce packets and cardboard toilet paper tubes... if you catch me on a good day i might even throw in some flat rate boxes from the usps..

lol. Maybe it is a very spendy pump.

ok.. well the PVC alone was 20bucks and the pump was 80bucks (it is a very hardy pump and is guaranteed to last for over 15 years... it is a very good pump because it dosent lose alot of head... so stop judging before you blab your mouth off!

the media is great.. i couldnt even see from the front to the back (very very cloudy). but then the next day i installed it it was SUPER clear!
looks great, but judging from what you said here it sounds more like mechanical filtration and not as much bio. those sponges are gonna clog QUICK!!!!!!! consider using something that wont clog as fast

The sponges I'm using in my sump project are AC50 foam blocks. $3 for 3 of them at any LFS, Clean & safe for fish without washing, easy to cut up, can be used for mech or bio, and they are already the perfect por.r...rrossity..porosity?...is that how you say it? Also, I left my first tray/drip plate empty of media so it catches stray leaves & fish before the water starts going thru all 3 mech stages of sponges & floss & felt. I have enough bio, so my whole sump is dedicated to mech & java moss. I'll try to build an algae scrubber at some point, too...
