there is one problem with the sponge you are using.. it will rot.. which is why we use plastic pot scrubbies..

ok, ok... if you built one similar then maybe it wont work as well but mine works better than all my other sumps. watever.. i just wanted to post my sump pics!

i dont really doubt it but i would like to know why it works better

please explain your design

well.. idk why but it works beter, maybe its because these sponges are washable and i can clean them very offen, or its because the tank is NOT heavily stocked, or its because i have alot of current in the tank with my undergravel jets and air stones!

maybe i should make my own wet/dry.

i think you should add a few more sponges.

I cut up all the leftover PVC & vinyl tubing from my DIY overflow & threw that in as media, too. It was free & there's no such thing as too much surface area... I'm still messing with the 3 drawers of mechanical filtration to get the right balance, but I can tell you the Rena SuperMicro I like to use in my AC HOBs is not working very well as the final mech media. The AC50 foams are working great after the strainer screen, though. That 3rd drawer may just have to be floss-only. Just FYI for those using this design.
