Best gun for home defense?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No kidding don't get a 1911, they are an awsome gun I live them but for a guy new to guns get a glock or similar type of composite gun. Easy to take down and clean and my glock goes bang every time I pull the trigger, it will eat any ammo u feed it. Also get a shotgun hands down the best HD gun to have, remember the zombies are coming and a shotty would be perfect

Listen to skj was gonna say the same. Shotguns have heavy recoil n hard to fire second shot for a untrained person. Revolvers are perfect. Just point n pull trigger. Plus u will get less penetration n won't hit someone on other side of wall

Hello; Thanks for the comment. I will point out that revolvers can be had with ammo that can penetrate walls and even more substantial barriers. I believe that some revolvers are among the most powerful handguns available; the 44 magnum and 454 caliber for example.
There are self defense rounds available for handguns advertised to have less penetration of structures like walls. I have some ammo called glasser safety rounds that are not supposed to penetrate some walls. This is an issue for consideration depending on what sort of place a person lives in.
A round needs to be able to penetrate heavy clothing to be efffective for self defense and such rounds are likely to be able to go thru many walls in a typical house. Self defense with a gun is a serious thing and has many aspects to consider.

id go for a shotgun for house defense. avrage joe might panic. we dont all shoot like james bond in the heat of the moment

It's hard to argue with a shotgun for pure stopping power. Loaded with #1 buck over penetration isn't an issue, either.

I keep a Remington 870 beside my bed loading with 00 buck. I don't really give a crap about over penetration. My 870 is mildly tac'd out with a military spec breacher barrel with a riot crown that I got on contract from Royal Arms thanks to my military service. Its the same barrel on our SRT teams shotguns. They don't sell these to civilians!

For my daily carry I prefer a 1911.

The best weapon to purchase her for home defense is the weapon she can shoot the most accurately under pressure. Take the person somewhere where they can rent and shoot various hand guns of different calibers and actions. let the person make the decision on what to own and then purchase the firearm.

I vote 870. They are cheap, reliable and you can get all sorts of different grips for them. My home defense gun is a (legally) sawed off Winchester Model 12 12ga.

My 2 cents: If you go with a shotgun, I'd recommend an 870. A home defense shotgun should have a pistol grip for maneuverability and control (personal preference). With a pistol grip, the safety is out of reach on the mossberg, but is easily useable on the Remington.

mossberg makes a 500 and the 870 is a Remington. Hands down a shot gun would be the best weapon for home defense.

Lol thats what I meant that I dont think the 500 feels cheap when you hold it my brother has the 870
