Best pellet for flowerhorn

A mega amount of astaxanthin, not just a marketing tactic. My point was that with quality genetics, one shouldn't need to feed those kind of levels of astaxanthin for the color red to look good.

The cichlid below was fed regular NLS cichlid formula. Red enough? :)

It can make a white flamingo pink so I do understand it's effect. I assume your point is, food will push red coloration further but a fish with red color in gentics should need that push.

I think I am soon getting a African cichlid tank.

This is a great and informative thread. I have a bunch of cichlids, only one flowerhorn though. I give it Hikari cichlid gold and a few vibrabites. I’ve tried several foods, it seems to dig the Hikari pellets the most. Failures for it have been the Kens Sinking Growth Pellets, Kens Krill pellets, Fluval cichlid pellets and flakes. I’ve looked into some of the other foods mentioned in this thread and will definitely be trying some.

Hikari cichlid gold is cost effective alternative to hikari bio gold plus. NLS and northfin makes better food. Fish takes time to accept new food, it's matter of getting used to than taste for fish.

I don't feed on water change day. There is no order. That day feeding is skipped, so 24hrs without food.
