NLS pellets???? NLS stands for? lol

LOL, what the F are you talking about? :grinno:

No one is comparing synthetic vs natural sources. The food I feed has more Vitamin C from natural sources in it, than most commercial feeds do with natural & synthetic combined.

BTW - the ironic part is that the vast majority of FH breeders in SE Asia feed bloodworms to their juvenile fish, many of them exclusively.

I think I better go talk all of this over with my fish, and see how they feel about the situation. :D

 Some Knowledge being dropped in this thread.

An interesting read on the crappy attributes of synthetic Vitamin C, and fish nutrition. :)

http://jn.nutrition.org/content/128/10/1745.full

Most manufacturers now a days use L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (a much more stable form of Vitamin C) when supplementing feed.

My only criticism of the article linked to above was that their data only supported the values (25 mg/kg) when considering very small, non sexually mature oscars. The fish weighed less than 50 grams (2 oz's) when the trial started, which certainly doesn't equate to the same values being ideal for sexually mature adult fish, especially if kept in tanks with other fish. The more stress in the environment, the more C required, and of course other species can & do require far greater amounts of vitamin C than oscars.

But still, an interesting read for anyone that doesn't feed their fish fresh organic grown red bell peppers. :D

Just read that L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate has a half-life of 14-35 days and an extremely high ash content 75%. While other sources state its more stable than than asorbic acid which in vitamin c 50% is lost every 3 months. Like I said, Im no bio-chemist, so most studies are jibberish to me. But am glad to read NLS uses mostly fruit and veg extracts in a lot of their products. Cant seem to find many natural ingredients in Hikari foods. Whether extracts provide the same benefitial properties as the raw material I do not know. But I do know reading that article above really makes me want to bump the bell pepper intake of my fish as well as starting to keep my feeds in the fridge.
