as stated earlier trigger fish=perfectly awesome tank

It looks cool but as stated before, what a pita to keep clean,if you covered it in silicone or whatever like the other poster said then it would be ok

Last i saw nothing had changed. He got 3 large beautiful koi. Only problem he was having was the bass from the stereo was trying to break the tank lol.

Well, I have to say I like the look of the casing tied in with the head. Really makes me think of apocolypse now.

Thoughts on cleaning the shells, have a back up set so that you could just pull those and replace with new ones, but that would probably really mess with water quality.

I really think their tank goes their way.

I personally like it Sempre Fi

I will be the first to flat out say i dont like it. I just think it looks tacky and it isnt functional. Anyway... I just hope what ever fish call this place home are ok.

You hit the nail on the head. I agree with you. I don't like the looks, the functionality or any other reason behind it purpose. I pitty the fish which may have to endure such habitation. I pitty them, do to owner ignorance, stupidity and lack of fore thought. If you're going to make a habbitat for the Koi, at least use substrate of a natural type. When the owner starts to rattling all of those casings together when they clean the tank, (like that'll really ever happen) do they have any idea of how that will sound to the fish. It would be as noisey as going to a drag race, in comparrison. Maybe he'll give them ear plugs to wear.

Brass casings would not corrode as badly as you think and the nickle plating will protect them, however i agree that if you have the money to do that then you should have pluged them and coated them in acrylic. Im on a phone right now so does anyone know what caliber they are? Im thinking 308... But i cant tell if they are not .50 BMG.

Lucifersam:

True the casings may not corrode as bad but, they will still oxidize. As far as plugging them, the guy's a lunatic for even thinking of putting them in the tank in the first place. Anyone with a millimeter of common sense would know you don't use un-natural substances in a potential home for aquatic life, regardless how small or how big and regardless of how cool it may be or look. These shell casings will cause a potential bio tank hazzard, waiting to explode. And that is exactly what will happen with these shell casings.

As far as the shell casing size, who gives a crap. I think this guy has had too many sulfer clouds from gun powder smoke fogging his memory about the true meaning of stewardship for aquatic life. :irked:
