Big Enthusiasts want a 10k gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree with you 100%. 10,000 gallons is no joke and would destroy a house. But like yuki said I should probably hire some professionals.

What are the dimensions of your living room? Or is your house also in the planning phase to be constructed? We did have a member construct his house around a 15,000 gallon tank.

I'm designing my shipping container house and I've always wanted a big fish tank so I'm incorporating it into the design. I've even had he idea of turning a shipping container in to a fish tank. But I'm going to keep it simple and see where it goes.

I'm interested in the shipping container house. Mind telling us a little about it?

I've seen that done before. My friends barn is 120ftx120ft and the walls are shipping containers. It's smart because the walls have amazing storage. But seems like a dreamer thread again

Well the amount it cost to frame a house is about the same to do so with shipping containers. They are cool looking always wanted one.

I know what ya mean Lep as far as the thread.....I have always liked those buildings that the Marines used as barracks years ago. They looked to be made of aluminum or some thin metal and were shaped like a cylinder cut in half lengthwise.

Working with one of those to build a home does sound interesting.I'm aware that in some areas there are zoning issues for even having one on your property.

You will have to forgive us, if some of us come across as a bit jaded. There have been too many threads on MFK like this one:

Do you have any idea how much even a small 2,000 gallon acrylic tank costs? I am thinking that you don't, especially if you aren't even keeping fish right now.... I do know that it would cost more than many new cars. A 10,000 gallon tank built on site would be prohibitive.

Why don't you get quotes from ATM and Fishtanksdirect for a 10,000 gallon tank. I'm very curious.

Done by atm all acrylic will be.... EXPENSIVE LOL...

I would look into FRP tanks like this other member has... Kellyn? 3,000 gallons

Also for perspective. I am planning on a new tank. I am taking qoutes from a local building company 5 minutes from my house, and one in Ohio which offers shipping to Blaine Washington.

He sent me pictures of a 10' X 4' X 40" bullnose tank... $20k used, just the tank no stand.so a 10k gallon all acrylic will be up there in price. Dimensions I'm looking to get for the tank are $7500,and dropping one foot in length and 4" in height it's $4500

Hope to see your dream come true :)
