The devil will destroy a jag  and i have kept them in a 125 as juvi's up to about 5-6".Don't take down the divider for any reason if want to keep your fish when i first started fish keeping in my teens i did alot of aggresion experiments like this without the divider:WHOA: .I had a 14" devil in a 100 my buddy wanted to get rid of a 6' green texas so we put the texas in and it rammed the big devil and popped his swim bladder the rd died a few hours later. The moral of the story is these fish are capable of 1 hit fataliaties:headbang2 so be safe don't let them near each other or big suprise can happen. Also big cichlid battles bust up equipment and tanks so evan if they get along today tonight might be the big suprise.lol:)

so what your saying is even if raised together from babies this does not work.. i take your word for it and i thank you for telling me.. end of even thinking about it.. i love both my fish and would not take a chance.. thanks

I think it does help for them to grow up with other fish. If an agressive fish is grown up solitary and is use to being alone, they're more likely to kill off any invaders to their territory.

And as i'm sure you know, the bigger the tank the better...especially with RDs/Midas. I've heard they really mellow out sugnificantly in 300+ gallon tanks.....

Good luck with whatever you decide. Keep us updated on those beauties...:headbang2

thank you..but they will remain single.....but i will up date them here and there.. how big is the biggest Devil that you heard of.. does mine at 10.5 have much more growing to do in your opinion?

All you people seriously think jag will win, better think twice. I had a 12" male jag in a 125gallon tank with a bunch of target fish. One day I place a 12" male orange midas/RD in jags tank. Jag started flaring and bitting the midas here and there, and some minor chasing to the midas away from jags territory. All was good, so I left and a few couple hours laters, the jag was on the top corner of the tank all beat up, with the midas below the jag. Bitting him over and over.
Now, they are both separated and midas has its own tank.

If the midas/RD fights the jag will loose. RD/midas are more powerful fish than a jag. RD/midas mouth and more solid and has more powerful jaws.

well then the winner hands down is the Red Devil.. and i am happy to hear that they both survived .. whew!! Post a picture of them if you can.

Heres one more last pic before they get split up again... :D

well just to get into the conversation, i personally have not seen your jahuars or rd's aggresion in play, so i couldn't tell which is more, but from experence with my jaguars, it'd be the jag, with mine before i even come into the room where the tank is, they start flareing there gills at me, imo there an awesome monster fish in that respect., and your rd looks great, how big is it?

He is 10.5 inches..but of course he is solid too.. where the jag is slim and trim at 11 inches, nice that you have Jags..do you have them in the same tank..and all is well.. I am growing up a baby Jag as well and i have to say he is turning out to be my real pet.. i have this total affection for him.. he is so responsive to me coming up to the tank.. he seems like he would wag his tail if he had one... i like them all but this baby is my little special guy or girl..not sure yet>>
