I would put some wrestling halfbeaks in a 10 gallon and the tank can be planted as well. THEY ARE HANDS DOWN the coolest fish for their little size.

I have platinum half beak, their color is just striking!

.. I have 8 cray in total.... I have never once seen them eat any of my plants...
maybe Im just lucky...

depends on the species of crayfish

OT: If you want plants maybe you can try a colony of shrimp(red cherry shrimp would be cheapest.. http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction.cgi?fwinverts&1282108161)

I've always wanted a crayfish setup with rocks all over the bottom so the crays are always "climbing" onto something. You could do a lightly planted tank with low tech plants growing through rock crevices as long as the species of cray you choose does not eat plants. Also, some crays do not get along with each other and you might end up with torn claws so make sure to do your research if you want multiple crays :D

I wont promote other sites to take you away from MFK..
however, some sites are more directed to loving the hobby and not obsessing over it.

That is sig line material!

cichlids in general will rip up your plants. you could just bairley squeeze a breeding pair of rams into your tank. but they are far too touchy to stay in such a small tank for too long. if you upgrade to a 30G, you could have a group of rams, maybe some smaller african cichlids, or a breeding pair of convicts. convicts are the best starter cichlids. and they also breed like crazy!

If you want an aggressive fish,a dwarf puffer would be best suited in a 10. Peaceful fish would be a dwarf gourami,or betta.
Not much to choose from in a 10.

you could do 1 maby a breeding pair of convicts
cribensis
rams
african shell dwellers
2 Apistogramma cacatuoides
most dwarf cichlids
maby a firemouth (you might have to upgrade to a 15g in the long run)

Definitely a no to the Convicts/Kribs/Firemouth/Rams/most Dwarf Cichlids...we're talking 10 gallons or less than 40L!

tee hee heh, I've been quoted...
