About 7 or so inches in that picture. Yep a kelberi

i want to try this.

one question is it necessary to have a sump or can you have a HOB/Canister filter doing this also?

i currently have 5 mono's @ 5-6 inches and 2 tems at 6-7 inches in a 40 gallon with a aquaclear 50 and a eheim ecco 2234 canister filter. the aquaclear 50 currently has ammonia in it which im going to remove tonight when i do a water change. also have 5 orino's in a 12 gallon grow out. how would i go and do this black water thing?

i know its a overcrowd for them, but im waiting on my room to be finished before i can decide what size tank i can fit in there.

sorry for the thread jack Jcardona1

^ i have seen folks use the leaves as a substrate, just gotta keep an eye on them once they start to break down. another option is to get a filter bag and just float it in the tank. not visually pleasing, but its easier to maintain that way i assume.

and HCR, yeah i here ya bro! after all, everything we do is for the fish. to be honest, the black water looks pretty cool when viewed from the front, it gives the fish a neat color to them. i just hate looking at the tank from the side lol, looks so ugly :D

wow alot of interesting stuff brought up about this topic. We need to get some pics of bass in these blackwater tanks. :)

after doing research in this. it says that the cattappa leaves (indian almond leaves) changes the pH levels in the tank. how much of a pH drop will i see if i use the leaves, because i dont want to drop the pH too quickly and cause my fish to get sick and die. how would i go about doing this without dropping the pH so quickly.
