bloat?

Hey everyone,

It will be 3 weeks sunday since Ive had success this EBJD and at fish he was eating well. Pellets, brineshrimp and bloodworms. The he slowly started only wanting bloodworms. When that happened i just started feeding him only pellets and brineshrimp. Then monday he stopped eating. Then tuesday he started pooping white, just hangs there. Last night I added API general cure because it was the only thing petsmart had that had metronizadole in it. I did a full dose last night.

I religiously do 50% water changes every other day and he is in a 40gal that is divided right now. Temps stay about 82:



Anyone have any suggestions or think im treating for the wrong thing? Should I follow the directionsa on thethe back orto should Ibe follow the direcctionsa on thethe bloat thread fromI this forum? Any feedback is greatly appreciated

Heres a better pic, there are a couple "balls" and now towards the top there is red . So the string starts red now and goes white and has balls

I'm not sure. Do you have a LFS that you could ask. You would probably have better luck finding meds there and you could ask about the EB.

My festaes had the samething and not eating at all...I would do what the directions on the box says and also try soaking your brine shrimp and blood worms in epson salt before feeding...that worked for me but I used a medicine called metro+

Also slowly bump the temp up to 85...once hes back eating slowly drop it to 79...ive had my ebjd almost a year now and keep my temp at 79

Thanks everyone. No good fish stores in riverside they are all a pretty good drive away. I always have salt in the water, about a tsp per gallon just for electrolytes. I upped the salt to 2tsp per gallon before I treated because it was reccomended on the bloat thread.

I have multiple EBJDs and they all flourish at 82, this new addition is the only one who is sick. Also everything im reading says not to feed them for about a week while treating.

@crazylegs did your festaes survive and what did you do for treatment?

You could use API General Cure, Prazi-Pro or any anti-parasitic med. Do you have a PetSmart or Petco in the area?

I am using api general cure. I have both near me but the petco near me doesnt sell medications anymore

General cure is 250 mg Metronidazole and 75 mg Praziquantel. If your fish has IPs this is a good combination of meds. How long have you been treatin the fish? I see you've had the fish 3 weeks, did you QT and treat befor introducing this fish to the main tank? IF you treat the fish in a hospital tank you could also add 1 tbls of epsom salt per gallon of water to clean flush the system and geive the meds an advantage.
