Blue spot Rays

I wasn't going to say anything, but I thought your rays looked skinny too. I feed mine scallops, shrimp, and squid as their main diet. I had a local seafood shop that would always give me scraps of fish, shellfish, etc. for free, but they recently closed there doors. If I was you, and they're eating, I would just stick to squid for now. Once they're comfortable, they'll start eating everything. We're both in the same boat for now. But if they're eating, you're doing good. I was actually surprised this guy ate yesterday and today. They don't usually eat right away in a new environment. Good luck and I'll keep you posted with updates on my end.

Yea it isnt the first time I have been snookard and probably not the last. :D My homemade food does have squid in it but should I get some squid alone to feed them? One definantly ate but not so sure of the other. This guy wants me to take two trigon blues that I havent even seen and dont know if they are eating because they are at his boss's house in a 8' round 800 gallon acrylic tank:headbang2 and this guy has 6 butterfly rays in there and the largest one is 22". Sounds like to much rays for 800 gallons to me.

I think you already know what the best decision is. That's a lot of livestock for one person to monitor. He wouldn't be able to see what everything is eating unless he's hand feeding; which I doubt. But it's all up to you. You've dealt with him and if you're happy with what you have, then go for it. Maybe you should ask him if he could hold the next rays for a while (to make sure they're eating and such)??? I don''t know, I've had a few adult beverages tonight, so I'm just throwing it out there. But I hope your blue spots do well. They really are good looking animals.

Just to answer your question about squid, I've found it's their favorite food, and if you can get them to accept it regularly, you can switch them over to shrimp, scallops, etc. You'll know when you've won the initial feeding battle.

Just a quick update, one of them ate some squid but not a whole lot and the other maybe a tiny bit. I bought some eggcrate light shields and sectioned off a part of the pond for feeding them to watch. If the one doesnt take in much food i will try the tube feeding but I need to find what I should feed it.

Also, what's different about their venom than with any other ray? Are the Blue Dot Stingrays venomous in ways other than stinger?

Just wondering, because someone mentioned them being venomous in an ad. Guess they meant they haven't been surgically neutralized.

Sooo, you planning on rescuing the ones from the boss' overloaded aquarium?

i dont know for sure, i will see them eat before i would buy them but im not sure about buying from him again. Dont like it when people lie for a quick sale!

I agree, they are beautiful tho. The ad I saw said they normally sell for $500, but selling them for $160 for quick sale. There's a good example of lying for a quick sale.
