Blueberry Oscar...........horrible thing.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Our LFS has a socalled Blueberry Oscar. It is about 5" and it doesnt have any blue left in it at all. Has an off yellow color and it just doesnt look healthy at all.

:irked:They shouldnt be aloud to do that to a fish!!:irked: Just cruel!!:irked::irked: It should be in the same catagory as animal cruelty. What is the difference in doing what they do to dye a fish and wrapping a cat in duct tape(happened in Philly).

Thankfully my LFS dosent support dyed fish...Its a horrid practice

The person who sold it to you needs to know so she won't do it again.

This really shouldn't surprise anyone.. Dyed fish will be around until people stop buying them, if you want to make a point bring the dyed fish back, get a cash refund, and don't go back to that store. A LFS is a shaky business and every lost customer hurts a shop badly, you don't want them to sell dyed fish, stop shopping there, and let the manager know why. It's really very simple.

Its a tough choice between looking after the Oscar and showing the lfs the error by returning the fish . If it were me i would give him best life possible and tell shop about bad practice. MADBOB is correct though but i would feel bad for fish if i returned

Man I have seen blueberry oscars for sale at my local fish store and had them listed for $20 when the normal tiger oscars was only 7.50 when I asked they told me they was a rare strain of oscar not knowing any better I took their word and dindt give it any more thought ..... now that I do know they are going to know how the blueberry oscar came about. man that aggravates me so bad how could anyone do that to anything , my personal opinion if people do that they need to be tared and feathered to give them a taste of their own medicine.... that just my personal opinion though ... sorry it just I cant stand anyone being cruel to any type of pet ....

It is very cruel indeed. If you can, I think you should keep it, after all it will have a better life with you. The dye will likely wear off in a year or two.

On the topic of dyed fish I got into it with someone on another forum who argued that forcibly changing the color of fish was not cruel at all. He asked "How do you know its cruel? Have you ever asked an Oscar who's been dyed?"

Yeah there are some stupid people on the net.

The little guy has been through enough.. i would definitly keep it and tell the LFS everything you learned... but the Oscar deserves a home now.. good food and some love.. it may even survive and live a long life in a happy home..

just keep it. clean water and a good diet can go a long way. you might be pleasantly surprised.

I don't like posting twice unless asked a question, however I do feel strongly about this. If we don't returne the fish for a cash refund the bottom line is they made a sale. Keeping it and giving it a good home sounds great and is, but it still doesn't matter in the bigger picture of stopping the practice you have to returne it if there is any chance to stop this torture.
