Blueberry Oscar...........horrible thing.

I'm not trying to start a fight, the point is that a sale is a sale, when the books are done at that shop it will look like a good idea to keep ordering dyed fish, and contributing to the profitability of something you oppose is counterintuitive.

You can say a single 10 dollar fish doesn't make any difference, but lfs that stay open only do so because they're tight with their cash, and it's not the one fish that will accomplish anything, the customer who is willing to buy more 10 dollar fish and associated food and supplies is remarkably influential. I'm not sure you're all aware how little money is left once all the bills get paid at any given lfs, thier profit margins are dismal compared to other retail businesses, most don't last a year, and the ones that do only do because of borderline fanatical customer loyalty.

If people in the know don't throw the weight of thier collective dollars around nothings going to change, you can't solve a problem based on a product by buying it.. of course this only works if you're actually willing to stop patronizing a store if they don't get their act together

that being said I'm done talking on the subject.. Do what you want just think about what your dollars are saying for you.

we're talking fish cruelty when thousands of thousands are taken out of their home and eaten daily.

I bet some of you probably have glo fish or hybrids too

I'd keep it. Give it a good life. Maybe it'll last, maybe it won't. Not like you dropped alot of money on it. Before you did the research you thought it was a good buy. The fish hasn't changed. Bet it still looks the same as it did before the research.

Pics?

I appreciate all your posts - some real good advice goin' on here - there is no right answer IMO. Educating the store sounds like a great idea and I will do just that w/ no expectations of any results. I was hoppin' it was an oscar x ebjd or another blue morph but my bad, I didn't research 1st - stupid - cause I know better.

Currently the lil' oscar is having a ball scholling with Raphiodon Biara and Nandas Nandas.......I'm not gonna introduce him into an SA/CA enviorment cause the others with probabley kill 'm for being altered................I decided to keep him til' I can grow the dye out of his system, feed'm, luv'm til he's normal if possible - then because I'm not an albino fan - give'm to a good home. I've certainly got plenty of room for the lil' guy and I did buy'm .....................I'll post picks soon, it's kinda funny seeing the interaction between the 3 species...........he's in no harm ..............the biara's moving soon and well a leaf fish ain't gonna do much to the oscar............once again thanks and keep on spreading the good word.

I'm really glad you're keeping it. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses. I'm really curious to see what caught your attention so i can't wait for those pics

I have to say I'm glad you've decided to keep him - at the end of the day that poor fish has been through so much trauma as it is that now he does deserve to have a good home where he will be taken care of.

But...I do with agree with others - as long as these stores keep selling them they'll keep having a reason to go through such methods. If I were in your situation make it known around the area what type of fish this place is selling and what they are doing to these animals. Nothing destroys a business like word of mouth.

Perhaps try speaking to them first about it... if they don't listen, then go for it I'd say.
