Breeding pair for a 125g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yea your jag is around that, and ive personally seen a jag that was atleast 16", but honestly, its rare to see. and if you ever want to get rid of your nice monster jag ill happily take him :)

I am going to go down and see shawn at Fish World in South Port, NC. I think he had some cubans in stock last time I went. I could always throw them into my 55 gallon growout tank (festae, carpintis lahalis) and see if I cna get a pair.

I am partial to Ampilophus Lyonsi :)

My Pair was fun!!!! (Pair here)

Wow, those are some beautiful fish. I will have to add them to the list to research.

I have some carpintis that I am growing out, so that may be a future option as well.

I got 7 cubans from the local cichlid store, all between 1-1.5", and threw them into the growout tank!

Jumbo was close, GREENTERRAS jag is over 16 by now I'm assuming... If kept in good water and fed properly reaching 16" should be attainable, and if you plan on keeping a jag for life (possibly 10+ years if cared for properly) this should be. Even so, if a Jag say reaches 14.5" that leaves only 3.5" to spin around, which is 1.75" on each side.... IMO not very much space, adequate, but not the kind of space I like to give.. Thats just me though and everyone has their own ways.

Fish size depends more on genetics that anything else, and in aquaria Male jags really rarely pass 14-15". Jumbo was around 14", and Greenterra's is the only jag passed 16" (slightly) that i've ever seen with on ruler pictures. The rest is all talk. bigger is a better but 18" wide is fine.

Black nasties

Parachromis ( except dovii )

Trimac

Other large Amphilophus most are Colorful interactive and aggressive

These would be my first choices for breeding pairs

what do you think stunts the jags growth in aquaria? shortened life span, or stunted growth?
