Bruce!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
im glad to see another in the rescue business. i wish i had a basement so bad so i could expand. i did the same thing until i surrounded the entire front room with tanks stacked on double stands. so i stopped taking in new fish.:( but i got tons of great fish. i got my breeding jags because they didnt want babies. i got three baby turtles 2 red ear sliders and a painted, they were all in a 8 gallon tank. they were like 1 1/2 inches painted was about 3 but still. not enough room. i got several tiger barbs, gourami, convicts, parrots, oscars, bala sharks, crayfish, crabs, plecos, silver dollars, a ton of baby catfish, frogs, a hamster and two rats. and that is just the rescues from the past 4 months that i can remember. lol i buy tons of animals as well. i have a snapping turtle, axolotl, and ALOT of other fish. i would love to have a huge pet store/rescue. but it all takes money. which it already takes plenty of cash to take good care of all my pets as is. whats funniest is that i posted a fish rescue ad and i started getting hamsters and rats and turtles. haha. alot of people try to take on too much and fail soon after. thats why i encourage friends to get pets from craiglist like hamsters and stuff because it can give that pet a good home, and save them money.

update!!!
Not much to update... just picked up a bigger pool though for the rescues. :D
From a 66" to a 10'. Knowing me, I'll get it up and running ASAP, but today I spent the day working. An area (New London) where my grandmother lives had some very bad weather on Saturday. We had bad weather here, but not near as bad as they did. Up-rooted trees, tore down trees, etc. And her whole yard is trees, and plants, so it was just a mess. Power lines were down in the back as well, but no one will fix it until the area is cleared. So, eight hours of hard work later, and we got most of it cleared up. Worst part was that it was about 90 out, other wise it might of been a bit easier. And I will say that her yard if the worst out of everyone else around her area. She's lived there almost her entire life, so on the inside I knew that taking down the trees that had busted was just killing her. That's all she really has in her life is her yard, which she loves to death. The big Cedar tree she had was tore down (well, after we hooked a chain to it, and pulled it down with the truck :D), the big Willow tree (Trunk is about 4-5' thick) has lost most of its branches, etc. Done with that sob story, lol.
And tomorrow we're leaving for a little fishing trip (Unless it turns out my other Grandmother is dying of Cancer, she finds out tomorrow, then we go see her...), so I wont be home till late... but I will get it setup!
Seems like everything has been about my Grandparents lately, lol.

Yeah, I'm trying my best. Suppose we haven't had a rescue since July I do believe, so it is going a little slow. Last few people wanted something in return for there fish, whether it was money or fish, which isn't really a rescue if I have to pay for it or for give you more fish for fish that you don't want. People these days, lol...
Otherwise nothing has changed. :)

Flicked on the light quick, after it turned off (Have it on a timer

), so all of the Oscars are all bunched up together, lol, that's how they sleep. I'll try to get another shot later when they are all swimming around.
Bruce finally has the space he deserves. :)
From a 45-Gallon tank and covered with HITH, to almost completely cleared up of HITH in a pool.
Have some BIG news.
The pool shown above is 127 Gallons. I said that I would upgrade, and I have. Currently filling it, and all that I will say is that there is over 1,000 Gallons in it currently, and I stil have a little while to go.

Sounds awesome can't wait to see the new pool up and running.
Still need pics, lol, went to a party after filling it up almost the rest of the way. Currently at 2,000 Gallons, but still has a little more yet to go. :D
Going to have to build a DIY Canister Filter for this one, lol. And a big one.

Check out this email I just received.
"Hi Brady
You took in a fish from me about a year ago or so & now my Dad has a paco fish (actually 2) that are out growing his tank which I believe to be 180 gallons. He's afraid there going to break the tank. I'm guessing the fish to be about 20 inches give or take a few inches. He's very big! Anyway would you be able to take him? I've called places like Milwaukee Zoo & they have too many now to take in another. I just thought i would check with you to see if you could take him in or knew of someplace that could. He's so big that people would enjoy seeing him.
Thanks for your time
Amy"

Looks like I've got two )v(onsters on the way. :D (And she spelt Pacu wrong, but w/e :))
She was the one with the Tilapia, if you look back at that.

Awesome thread. I would do this if I had the resources to do it.
Thank you. :)
Got an update; bad news, good news, and a crazy idea.
Good news; the pool has been doing well, and everyone seems to be doing fine!
Bad news; it's just a temporary setup.
Crazy idea; someone is helping me out by hopefully getting a 200-Gallon tank donation. Hopefully I will have better news on that soon. ;)
AND a new rescue! Got this big guy a few days ago.
He is a 20"+ Pacu, and was kept in a 180-Gallon tank with another large Pacu. This guy was getting harassed by the other, and the owner was afraid that they might break glass of the tank. Any marks shown on the Pacu was from hitting the top of the tank.
"Hell, they're cute when you first get them at three inches, but that changes real quick, haha."
Nice guy, knew what he was dealing with, no disrespect to him. He was actually the father of the woman that dropped off the Tilapia b.
The Pacu is now the largest fish in the pond, and Bruce does not like that at all, lol. He likes to follow the Pacu, along with his girl; a WC female Oscar. Both being WC, they seem to follow each-other around a lot. The two biggest Oscars in the pond. ;)
Enough talking, lol, pics! (Only one turned out fairly decent; the camera hasn't been taking the best photos since I dropped it on the floor...)
