Building a 1500 Gallon plywood & glass tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Get 6-8 screw-eyes (screw with a circle on the end) and stretch a piece of cable tight across the top of the tank and one across near the ceiling. You'll probably need a couple on top the tank and in the ceiling about 1/3 the way across to hold it snug. Get some curtains with rod slots at the top and bottom. Slide them on to the cable. Make sure the curtains are room darkening on the inside.

It'll hide the lights and you'll be able to slide them on the cable for access to the tank.

more sand! you should get some mangroves and grasses in there, man. That would look amazing. I'm excited that its finally getting stocked :)

LOL, mangroves require at the very least brackish water.

Check one of the craft stores for artificial plant branches. My friend suggested that to me yesterday. The one's in his 2600 look great.

agreed! and loose that cheezy sea monster, make it more natural and bio type like. Diff. kinds of gravels and sands, drift wood, sword plants, anacharis, etc.. it could bring this thing onto a whole new level! sweet drywall job by the way it made it look 10000 x better!

When you ran the pipes did you just run them straight through the side? I'm almost thinking I will have to do an overflow pipe on mine to set the water level so that if I have a power outage it won't overflow the sump I'll have on it. Are you gonna trim the window?

Pipes go straight through the wall then turn up to the desired height and 180 back down into the filter.

And yeah will trim it out shortly.

:jaw-dropp I'm still amazed at the speed of this build. :jaw-dropp

Do you think you got it done so fast b/c you had a good plan at the start. or b/c you had your funds in order before you started?

Good plan, and a drive to get it done fast.

Obviously if the funds aren't there then that will limit your progress, but working on it 3-4 days a week is what ultimately got this thing done so fast.

Personlly, I hate projects that drag and will do whatever it takes to knock them out.

It really does look great. So much so that my wife gave me the green light to do this in our basement. Great job I've been subscribed since the beginning, you know last week when you first started;), and it's been an excellent adventure.:popcorn:
