Calling All You Severum, Uaru & Chocolate Fans ............

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My chocolate was a bully when she was the only cichlid in the tank, but the minute she went into my 210g with the bigger severums, they quickly put her in her place. Cookie, your chocolate is alone so it's really outgoing and friendly. That may or may not change depending on what tank mates you select and how it gets along with them. You'd be amazed at how quickly personalities change depending on tank setup, size, tankmates, etc.

My only suggestion with Uaru is lots of water changes and soft water. I couldn't provide soft water and I kept seeing HITH (even though it never got majorly bad) so I got frustrated and gave up. I haven't tried a good old tank-bred Uaru amphiacanthoides, only F1 amphs and F1 fernandezyepezi. They both seemed pretty sensitive to the water. They ate and grew like weeds, were really outgoing and friendly... but I just felt that I wasn't able to provide them with the conditions they needed to thrive. :( Maybe one day.

Here's some of the old fernandezyepezi pics from day 1 to about a year old...

And here's a couple of sub-adult pictures of the same fish after I shipped them to my friend Al in Connecticut.

Thanks Ryan, I never quite get my fix of your old F1 ferns. :D Cool new pick from your buddies tank.

Eska - you choclates actually look really good. I have never kept one but that shot of your F0 Peru makes me jealous!

I'll have to throw some pictures up of my Uaru pair I got from John (snookn21) over a year ago. They are doing great & very large now!

peter, do you still have any severums? im starting to like atabapos more and more. im contemplating having the dat exit stage left and doing just a 180g with some more dats :D

I'm keeping the red/gold pair, simply because because I've had them for two years and am attached to them.

Why not keep the dat if you are going to do a 180 with more dats? From what I've heard you can mix dats of different sizes but you have to get a bunch of them.
