Camshaft's New Fish Room/DIY 55 gallon Sump (Load Warn.)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'll post some pics of it full when I get the chance. I've been working alot.

I think one of the seams is coming apart on it.........

I dont have the words right now

Tank started leaking. Tank now empty. Going to drive Jeep over tank in driveway.

One of the seams started leaking? That sucks. How thick is that acrylic? Did the seam that split have bubbles in it before you filled it? Hope all goes well on getting it fixed!

I woke up this morning at 5am after sleeping 3 hours and having to get up for a 14 hour shift and checked my seams. Don't ask me why. I just woke up and thought about checking my tank. I rubbed my hand down the corners and felt water. So I just started siphoning it out the window and went back to sleep. I wasn't even surprised. I just looked at my tank. Then looked at my wet hand and just said , "hmm...." My luck has been so bad lately, it was just another thing. Ya know. I find myself disappointed so often, it's just an every day thing now.

Be sure to take a video!

JK, man that sucks what are you gonna do about it? Reseal it or return it?

I'm probably just gunnu let it sit empty until I can find another cheap 300 gallon. I put a filter on the sump to let it cycle for whenever. I'll just start another tank on the other side of the room to keep me busy until then.

The acrylic isn't too thick. It's thick enough not to bow, but thin enough for it not to be worth my time caring about it anymore.
Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure there were bubbles before. It looks like it just wasn't sealed good and has gaps and bubbles to let the water seep through very slowly. I'm not seeing it come apart, just little bubbles and crevices to sneak through.

Here are the pics from before it leaked.

Here it is after I filled it up and turned on the pump. It is brown from the tannins from my 240 gallon. I transfered bookoo buckets of water from my old tank that is still on the other side of Altamonte.

Here's one my bro took as I was rubbing up on the tank. I was happy it was holding water. Short lived.....

That bulky peace of PVC in the middle is a quick release so that I can get to my filter.

I had to chissle bit by bit with a hammer and flathead screwdriver to make room for the PVC. It took me forever.

Here I am putting back the cinderblock in the back right corner after I pulled it out to resize it. I had to drain the tank completely first and refit the bulkead also. It was leaking. I fixed it. moving the block made me nervous. in order to get it out in the first place, I had to climb underneath, push up on the tank with my back, shimmy out the block and let down the tank hoping it wouldnt fall on me.

I had to do so much work for this freakin' tank.....now it sits empty....

Well there you go. All that work and no money shot..... hope you enjoyed the update.

Buy a tube of that Stik-N-Seal to seal the seam. Use it like silicone on a glass tank. Lay a bead on the inside corner of the seam. I'd use a rubber glove if you want to push it into the seam.
