Can I feed my fish this dog food?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
..... and while I am at it, allow me to further explain the complete farce that many of these so called *grain free* pet food formulas are. Using this food as an example, while they promote the fact that their food is grain free, they list peas, followed by potatoes, then more potatoes, canola oil, and more peas ...... ALL terrestrial based. I understand the inclusion of plant matter, having said that, it's inclusion rate in EVERY dog and cat food should be limited - and terrestrial based fat should never be used in a food designed for, dogs, cats, or fish.
This food has made a huge difference in our dogs health and we've tried a lot of different foods. No more running eyes or stinky ears.

I would bet your dog would have gotten better fed a raw diet too. Listen to RD he knows what he is talking about. Pay the extra and keep your fish healthy and you will be happier.

I love these type of threads, starts out with the op asking a if it's ok to do something that he knows is probably is not ok, then gets 10 pages of advice why not to do it, then argues against all the advice given, and does what he wants anyway...

My thoughts exactly.

Pretty much every tread in the Arowana section

I knew RD would advise against it because apparently nothing is good enough for him. I've had other experience fish keepers tell me it'll be fine so I'm not concerned about the advise. Nobody has tried this food with fish so you don't know of its good or bad. All they can say is its "probably bad" because it's made for dogs... Even though the ingredients are better than many fish foods aside from the slightly higher fat content.

My bad, something that I didn't add previously about the fat content, the main source of fat in this dog food is not only very high for tropical species of fish, it is also terrestrial based. (canola oil) Fish should be consuming fats derived primarily from fish, not terrestrial based plants. Dogs should be consuming fats derived primarily from animals, not terrestrial based plants.

Personally I wouldn't feed this food to my dogs, let alone my fish, but that's just me.
So basically the only difference between this food and fish food is canola oil vs fish oil, and the dog food doesn't have the wheat meal or soybean meal that fish food has. I think that's a fair trad -off. The dog food has less terrestrial based items than the kens fish food I have been feeding for years.

Bro, I think you should feed it exclusively and see how long it takes them to balloon up and dont forget the hot dogs

I don't see Canola oil being good for a fishtank......oil in general. I mean even fish oil is bad in the wrong amounts and will affect water quality at some point. That's like feeding them bacon and sausages or stuff like that - I probably wouldn't do it, but if you want to risk it, I guess nobody can really tell you what to do, it's your tank and probably $1000's of $$$
