why hate the hybrids???
probably because you never know what your getting unless you know who bred it, as well as the possibility of it being bred with something that it's supposed to be muddying up the gene pool further. I could go on, but it's not really necessary.

as far as the fish I'm gonna go for triFHasoma

FLOWER HORN

Looks like it could have mayan in it you can cleary see some amphilophus in it not sure which species its extreamly hard to tell when dealing with FHs unless your looking at the parents of the hybrid

Id say that fish has more trimac in it than anything...so Id guess a low grade Flowerhorn.

This fish's body shape is similar to a trimac but the markings are quite different. The hybrid does not have a "flower" marking on the head and the blotches along the lateral line are not consistent with a trimac. Lastly notice the subdued vertical bar patterns on the fish in question, they are quite different from a trimac. Sorry for the rant.

out of all the posts on here regarding this fish, you chose to quixotically address the one I put?:screwy:

I noticed all the differences...and I still see more trimac (or lyonsi, after seeing the pic posted of it) than anything else in it. Most low grade Flowerhorns dont have the "flower" marking, hence the term "low grade".

Low grade - a mutt, unidentifiable mix trying to be sold as a flowerhorn etc., which is what I think it is and was trying to be sold as.

Your response is one akin to me saying it IS a trimac. All of the things you "noticed and posted" are why no one has said exactly what the fish is. We noticed them as well.

Sir or Ma'am,
This is a public and social site, one seemingly dedicated to the pursuit of fish knowledge. I chose to address your post most specifically in order to point out the differences between the picture you posted of a Amphilopus trimaculatus and the fish in question to the original poster. It was an attempt to discuss the often suddle (but not always) phenotypic variations observed among the various species of cichlidae. In my humble, professional opinion, this fish has little trimac in it. Of course this is extremely difficult to determine with pictures alone and your opinion is just that.

Finally, your response is akin to saying "Although I am posting a response in a thread asking for an opinion, no one better disagree with me or I will take it personally and repremand them.":chillpill:

Sorry to derail this thread everyone. Regardless of which hybrid this is, it is a really cool fish and should be a great pet.

Good Luck.

Why are people still debating what it is hahaha, unless someone is gonna do DNA testing then I would stop. There is no way of ever knowing what it is unless DNA testing is done, and I do not think that that is worth the time and money.
