Catfish suggestions

Cool looking sun you have there! I would love the gulpers but think i'll pass since I think they'd eat everything I want in there haha! I was kind of thinking I might go with a couple sun cats and a Chrysichthys ornatus catfish. Would that be ok you think? Then a couple Oscars as well in the tank. Used to have two oscars that I had to rehome due to losing my job and I miss having them.

Would the 2 suncats and the Ornate Bagrid cat be ok together you think? Or would that be too much bottom action since they all get roughly 1' in length?

i think that will be fine... i actually think you can easily have 2 suns and two of both ornate and pimlodus ornate and the two oscars perfectly in a 300g thats just my opinion im sure many will say otherwise tho...

That would be cool if I could keep a couple more than the 3 of them...just don't want to overcrowd the bottom too much. Might change the dimensions of the tank a little before I order as well...kind of been toying with the idea of bumping it to 96x48x30 but not for sure on that yet. Would you recommend going longer and staying with the 36" width or keeping the tank 96" long but bumping out the width to 48"?

Go as big as you can fit it/afford it... You will always want bigger. And yeah if you want a "mixed tank" I'de stay away from Gulpers but I've seen schools of these guys and they are cute as heck! but def a species only tank for most people. Not a cichlid person personally so not much to say for them as tank-mates.

Well my wife knows I want to go big and I'm thinking now I might do a 10'x4'x3' (or maybe 10'x5'x3' but not sure) tank now...she said get the bigger one so she doesn't have to hear me complain about not going bigger! haha...I know that size will kind of open up my options on cats a little bit.

And yeah the gulpers are pretty cute in a group!

If you want an active catfish that will clean up all left over food, get a giraffe cat or a vulture cat. Giraffes can grow to about 30", eat everything and are active. Vulture's will only grow to about 20" and are VERY active all the time. In a 10' tank, it would be an awesome sight

Really like the looks of the Vulture cat! Gonna add that to the list of cats i'm interested in!

Now assuming I go with a 120"x48"x 30" tank what are some other cats I could consider with the size increase over what I was originally planning?

pimelodus ornatus are pretty cool, i have a 7incher atm they can hit 12 inches apparently and hand feed as shown by pics on planet catfish

yes but these are a pain to find (especially in the US
i recommend suncats get 8-12in. but could reach bigger if you good filtration, feed it a verity of foods and ETC.and mine is deffenatly NOT shy he rules the tank and fights other fish that bug him or are in his "personal bubble" or in his hiding spot and there are other i recommend but i need to read the rest of the posts
