Caught Him in a stream by my house....what is it

It looks like a trout to me based on the tail being pretty round as opposed to forked in a salmon. The adipose fin is orange, another charateristic of a trout.
Where I live we can keep 5 trout and after we catch them we fillet them and the rest goes in the garden. We live in a small community and we have lots of dams and such that are stocked each year with trout. We also have a river that has pickerel,sturgeon,trout,pike,goldeye,suckers,ling and a few I probably don't know about. Just last year I caught a goldeye minnow in the river and kept it in a tank for a few months to see how it did.I bet I will go to hell now!! LOL LOL. It swam with all the other tropicals and ate flakes and such but never really grew at all. Seemed like a good experiment to me.
When a person is in the aquarium hobby he can't help but be curious about other types of fish and such. I really don't think the guy meant anything wrong when he pulled the minnow out. But ripping him a new hole over it isn't really good either. Have you ever went fishing? Well if you have you must have seen the kids hanging out by the water trying to catch minnows. Do you guys rip them new holes too. I just think everybody went over bored with the hole thing.
The most important thing I have learned here is to never ask for a fish ID!

I know I used the word "trout" in my initial post but after looking I'd lean a little toward salmon myself. With that said I'm not good with young Salmonids. To be honest, I should have referred to them as Salmonids all along.
