looting , fishing , and diving for safes lol....... J/K hope that mess gets cleaned up befor the cows start floating around!

Too late. Cows, pigs, you name it.

There's really nothing funny about it though. Thousands have lost everything they've ever owned.

FYI: This isn't New Orleans, it's Iowa. We haven't had the looting and other crap that went on after Katrina. There have been some isolated incidents, but not much more than people taking things from the trash piles in the streets (YUCK, why would they anyway?).

There is something I've seen in this community, and that's a sense of camaraderie. Everybody has done something to help their neighbors. This community has come together and you would be amazed to see the progress made to this day. In three weeks time, much of the trash has been removed. People have re-opened a few of their businesses. It's really amazing.

I spoke to a couple that came into my bar last night. They had lost everything. Their spirits were still high, and they did nothing but praise and admire the rest of their neighbors. They were amazed to see that the waste management workers were working right on through the holiday weekend, trying to get the affected neighborhoods cleaned up.

I have nothing but pride and admiration for my community here in Iowa.

Without a doubt, Liz! There are some really great people in this part of the country! I have a pretty good basis as I've lived in several areas of the country. Everywhere from New York to Alabama. I've seen it all.

There have been more people here for the clean-up then you can shake a stick at. Hell there are people here from Ohio. They are here for the work, but still amazing that they come from so far away.
I believe Cedar Rapids, Iowa is now the new Mexico City. I work with about 8 people that don't speak a word of english, and at the main job sight there are more mexicans then I could count.
That is the saddest thing about this whole thing, all the illeagles that are here taking work away from the local people that have been flooded and have nothing. Where is the INS when you need them.

Yeah, we're getting some nasty weather now. Go figure!

Stay safe Hawk! Water is an underestimated power.

let us hear from you both...

All safe here. But brick slabs fell off one of the parking garages in downtown Cedar Rapids last night at 8:30. They don't know if it was because of the storm or if it was because of structural damage from the flooding. Our town is literally falling apart!
