I didnt mean with the convicts. Youd need something faster and more aggressive for that for sure.

Then what did you mean? And what could be more agressive than a leopard? Although these really are beautiful, i gotta say. But i need to choose one, and leopard seems to be the kind of fish that is not really exciting until it feeds. It just stays still for most part.
More like instead of the convicts. But if you are attached to the idea of convicts what about one of the smaller wolf fish?
If interested in cons look at the Honduran Red Points, a smaller cousin. I has a pair in a 55 and thru 15 breeding I only had 3 make it to adults. They were housed with Plattys, Roseline sharks, bushynose pleco.

No, im not attached to them. I just think they are neat looking, and i heard that they hunt actively. Besides, wolf fish? In a 40 gallon? Seriously?

Rainbow\purple red all stay around 8" while a 40 is probably not the tank id choose for 1 may not be all that bad either.
Not gonna get to see any hunting behavior out of convicts. Their draw is looks and attitude. Is it a 40 breeder? Or what would tank dimensions be.
Although a 30 or 40 gallon tank is OK for young convicts, I consider it too small for adults. I've had males hit 6" and almost as tall.

I have also read about catfishes being piscivorous. Is there any catfish i could keep in that tank?
