Cloudy water excuses. I love 'em!

LOL!! I used the excuse that it was time to buy a new light bulb!! Turned out I was right!

I've got a cloudy tank myself...My 75 and 10 are super clear though. The cloudy one has sand substrate that has been in there only a couple of months. Maybe that really is it?
If you've done lots of water changes, the floating sand should be gone by now. But if there is debris trapped in your sand it could be bacterial action.

Ironically, I have my first cloudy tank ever after creating this thread. I vacuumed the lava rock side of my feeder collection system and there was a lot of muck. It settled, but now there is a slowly disappearing white fog in there. It looks like the typical bacterial bloom. The mechanical filtration is great, too, so I know it's not dust unless it diatomic silicate or something, which I doubt in spite of all the wild critters I've had in that tank.

nice thread. i also dont get the dirty/cloudy tanks. what's the point? i use fish tanks to accent the room so my pet peeve is having clean tanks. besides, cloudy water not only makes the tank look like crap, it also makes the fish look like crap :)

x2!

my tank is crystal clear IRL but when I take a picture or the right side of the tank which has a white gravel substrate it can look cloudy from the flash, this doesnt happen on the side with natural river colored stones. Also alot of tiny air bubbles in the water can look like cloudyness in a picture (if flash is used).

Those are pretty good points, actually.

I use the excuse that I don't know 100% what I'm doing yet...does that count?

My 20 gallon keeps a bit of a haze to it, only time I had it 100% clear after the initial setup/cycle/adding fish was when I went away for 3 days and didn't feed the fish. I'm getting better at it though, its starting to look consistently better, just not perfect yet. I blame some of that on the POS top-fin filter that came with the tank...

My 65 that I just set up is also fairly cloudy, but I just set it up last week, added sand driftwood rocks and bacteria...so...we'll see...

This is a real excuse...I have a black background, and I'm too lazy to reach back and thoroughly clean the glass on the back of the tank :p. So there are lovely white smears in all my pictures...my tank definitely isn't cloudy though, and I do have PFS.
