C'mon, there must be SOMETHING that can live with a Jardini

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If it works for a few months, then it's not enough time to tell. I had a 14" GG with my 22" Jar. All was well for a while then overnight the jardini nearly beat the GG to death. I've grown to accept the fact that I might have a 300 with nothing but a jardini, but I'm ok with that. They're beautiful and totally worth their own tank when they get big. Their presence is more powerful than a big stocked tank.

Right now I have my jar in with a 22+" marbled pim. Every once in a while the jardini will tear fins/scrape the hell out of the catfish, bit it recovers quickly. I'm still tempted to remove the cat, but he's too good at cleaning up.

Bottom line, there is no way to tell. I would ignore the experience of a jardini under 12" That's just a little guy! LOL. (and yes, they don't care if your hand is in the tank, they might bite you!)
Just to give an idea of their ability to individually demand visual dominance of a tank, here is a pic (I know you and a lot of others have seen it, but a picture is worth 1000 words).

My big jar is with a Synodontis catfish and several plecos. He never bothers the plecos but chases the catfish. He attacks my hand or net if I put these in the tank.

I see what you mean about him commanding attention. He's quite a presence.

Thank you Rallysman for all the info you helped me with these last few days. I really appreciate you taking the time.

One of my friends has one with 2 parrots, a FH, couple dats, softshell turtle, couple small black catfish, and the Jardini probably about 18-20 inches? I know I'm forgetting a couple of fish too. He's had problems in the past, but those current fish have been in there for quite a while now.

How big is his tank? And doesn't the turtle take bites at the fish? I would love to have a turtle but I'm afraid it would harm the fish.

The only thing safe from Jardini wrath apparently is nitrifying bacteria.

Mine Jardini is only 5" now so I have a little time to make a plan. If worse come to worst, I'm almost sure I could keep convicts and build a fortress out of driftwood so the Jar couldn't get to them. But that's not what I want.

I'd say rays but you can't have them.. I agree though solo large jardini is one of my favorite fish.. Levi your jardini has good taste in beer..

The one I sold Versicolor when it was 8" about 2-3 months ago isn't that aggressive.

But none of mine have been very nasty.

I have a 22+ Jardini with a bunch of tank mate.. got a TSN, 4 Gars, Marble cat, two poly.. Do just fine, but I alway keep my jardini well feed.. I'll post some picture later..

Since your is just 5", you should introduce him now with a few tank mate at once and lets him get use to it.. you might lose one here and there. Earlier to do it, you have a better chance before he get too big.

Today I started another experiment. My second Jardini ( also above 1 foot) in a tank with a like sized LMB...( I think I fear for the Jar, if anything...)
