Con Solo the Convict

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you haven’t noticed anything wrong with the swords yet, I’d say it’s fine to move the con in. Risk of disease beats freezing to death (though a lot of CAs can survive surprisingly cold waters).

Yea so the heater is definitely not working properly. I tried a different power strip (not sure if that logic makes any sense lol) looks like it turns on for a few seconds, but after that it’s completely dead, so definitely don’t trust keeping it plugged in. The tank is staying around 74 with the space heater nearby but obviously that can’t be kept on forever. I think I’m going to move him into the other tank. I’m assuming I shouldn’t have to acclimate him correct, since the water parameters are the same?

No need for acclimation assuming params are the same.

Moved Con Solo in a little while ago along with all his decorations and his favorite cave. So far so good. He’s not hiding, he’s exploring, even a little curious about what those orange things are swimming around. He’s also grown more than I was expecting in the past few months, got a good look at him in the net. Easily 4 inches now. Feel like I’m always thanking you guys but seriously Deadeye, Jexnell, FINWIN you guys have been key components in my success with these aquariums thus far. ?Not sure what kind of fish keeper I would be right now without MFK. But that’s enough getting mushy lol.

Here’s what the tank currently looks like. I did a bleach dip to the hornwort and added it to the tank but I just didn’t think it looked right. Currently I have it in a bucket with old small sponge filter I didn’t like and an extra led strip that I had to provide light. Not sure what I’m going to do with it right now. I ended up getting another bag of fake vines and tried my best spread them across the top of the tank. I think it looks okay, could use a little more work to get it right. Used a few suction cups to hold the vines up but you can’t really see them. This is also with the 30 inch Hygger from the 29. I think this light looks so much better. Overall I’m really satisfied, I think Con Solo now has the decor and cover he really should have had in the 29.

Small update on how Con Solo is doing, definitely still a little stressed which is to be expected, hasn’t even been a full day yet. I know I wouldn’t enjoy being randomly picked up and placed into a completely new environment. I think he’s also a little intimidated with seeing other fish in the tank. I actually have a question. I’m seeing him glass surfing and kind of flaring up at the back panel every once in a while with the light on, my guess is he’s seeing his reflection. Is there something I can do to reduce that reflection on the back panel? Or could it just be he’s stressed out rather than seeing his reflection? Or both.

Do nothing. If anything that's a sign he's fiesty in his new location. Constantly changing more stuff will actually stress him more. If he's exploring and eating that's cool. Let him settle in. I've been guilty myself of trying to make everything 'perfect' and end up creating more problems.

If anything he might be chasing the swords for fun in a week.

Is the tank brighter than the surrounding room? That will cause the fish to see it’s reflection and not much outside the tank.
