This is odd/funny....so I put the carpintis female in one side of my divided breeder tank. The first male I placed on the other side was my male sb texas...tons of interest on both sides of the glass. I then switched him out with Titus (aka big boy), my male FH. Then a little later I switched them out again just to see what she would do. She very clearly prefers Titus over a male thats way more like her physically/genetically. My guess is that despite their genetic differences Titus more obviously looks the part of a mature male and so is more attractive to her as a potential mate.

Im experiencing something odd along the same lines...my baby SB tex doesnt show much interest in other tex's....well he's not a baby anymore, but he loves parrots and fh's....where as his parents would have nothing to do with any other species other than texas'.......very odd. Izzy please post pics of your escondido female
!

added a new really red BP he shows way more interest in her than any of his tank mates texas'...weird...who knows shes super short and round bonsai just like him ...here's hoppin'! ...just a couple crappy quick pix so you guys get the idea...

I think thats the key phrase...to put it simply, like attracts like.

Titus looks enough like a mature green texas to really get the new females attention. Your sb tex likes the parrot for a similar reason, it looks the same. At least in theory anyway lol! Not sure if thats really the case.

p.s. Heres the best pic I could get of her bluecan.

very very nice i checked out a lot of baby texas' at the LFS yesterday and couldnt bring myself to purchase any of them, ended up with that red bp instead...would love to get a nice escondido

More and more of the sb Green Texas are turning out to be faders. So much so that I decided to delete one of my auctions on AB. I just can't bring myself to sell so many of what is turning out to be a lovely batch of faders until I grow them out and see what they look like. So far most of them still have flowerlines and pearls showing through the red/orange but I'm not so sure they're done peeling yet. Almost all have a muddy bronze color overlay covering the parts that haven't turned orange...the same muddy bronze their orange parts used to be. It's weird though, I'm so used to seeing them turn very dark brown if not black and then it "peels" off in splashs and streaks. These guys seem to get this lighter muddy bronze and then the orange and their other markings (pearls, flowers) seem to fade fairly uniformly all over the body. They start with an orange blush to the belly and it gradually intensifies and moves upward toward the spine, the face gets nicely orange very early in this stage. I'm fairly certain not one of them is done peeling yet. Despite my not wanting to keep/breed red texas I can't help being uber excited! If any of the males turn out to be fertile I'll defintely keep a pair.

yea i would hold onto those as well see how they turn out and pick the best out for yourself especially the females and then turn your older male SB tex's on them :P. ..good luck would love to see pics!

Sorry about the lack of pics, I have a friend that borrows my camera a LOT. He's using it to further his designer dog breeding business so I'd feel bad telling him no, lol!

I moved Titus and the GT female to a 40 breeder w/ 29 gal sump. I have stacks of tempered glass sheets of varying sizes...two of the smaller ones fixed in place with plastic clips attached to the center brace fits perfectly with just enough room to spare for only the female to pass through the center. Sort of like a swinging double door from an old west saloon made out of glass. She shows a ton of interest but I've a feeling it will be a few months before shes truly ready.

I'm so running out of tank space. :WHOA:

Time to get the 80 gallon I built set up finally, dimensions are 46 X 20 X 21, I love the width of that footprint. :headbang2
