What's with all the so called experts these days hating on Black Convicts. I'm getting back into cichlids soon and am looking forward to getting some convicts. I don't see how people love Amphilophus and hate convicts they are built and act similar. Cant be an expert if you like Convicts I guess.

Convicts are awesome fish. Go ahead and get some if you feel like it. I have a pink con pair right now and yes it’s just like keeping a big pair of amphilophus but just in smaller size. They are just so common in the hobby and breed so readily that they are overlooked and taken for granted.
I like convicts and always have a pair. I think allot of people like convicts but hate that they breed so much. I personally like it cause they supply allot of feeder fish.
Honestly convicts are a very underrated fish. Granted I will agree with allot of ppl saying they are just too aggressive to keep with most other fish, some ppl have luck with this while me personally not having that sort of luck others have. Mine used to just straight up murder fish 2-3x their size just because they could. But even with how aggressive they are I still like them but won't keep them anymore just because of the aggression they have. Maybe in the future I'll try some again but that won't be for some time yet. But if you like them I'd say go for it, they are great cichlids to keep and wonderful teachers on how a cichlid acts and behaves, very easy to breed and can have and amazing personality.
Convicts are great. But I haven't noticed anybody bad-mouthing convicts around here lately?
Either way, people have their own tastes, some will like the more common run of the mill fish and some won't. I've always enjoyed how easy they are to breed and keep, and the females especially are really gorgeous when mature.

You might be chasing windmills here buddy. Never seen a single thread crapping on convicts, let alone some larger conspiracy against them.
I love convicts dont see the problem, Mine has amazing colors and lives with a breeding pair of masked julies, jack dempsey, and a small lue channel cat. its not hi trying to eat the fry or eggs, its the catfish and the parents are VERY protective and are breeding again. anyway, my convict loves trying to bite my finer and follows me around my room, if im watching TV ill look behind me and there he is

Who hates Convicts? I've not heard anyone saying that. I would of also thought any "so called experts" would have an appreciation for all cichlids, or else why would they become experts in cichlids.
Strange opening post if you ask me. I think people are aware that they are territorial, especially when breeding. To say everybody hates them sounds a bit.. Well childish to be honest.
