Cons are one of my favorite fish and this one is great. I don't like her tail but she has awesome colors. You could always add another female. Wouldn't have to worry about having 500 fish in a year or so and they would both have nice color.

..yeah i love her colors!..
i didnt like her tail in the first place..but like iv said she was at PetSmart..and the only one like it in the tank...and the only one with so much color! ..some very (chooses words carefully)..uneducated..girl was standing in front of her tank saying how cute she was...and that she would look good in her bowl....witch was 2 gallons tops ..sitting in her hand.(did a little educating and bought the fish for my self)

ok! so big update! got her home in to her 20 gallon....and she went pink at first! no wonder when she colors up she is purple! here are a few shots of when she got in to her new tank....

after a few days of settling in i got her a male! he is very gentle...infact she is a bully not him! and her colors really came out!!

there tank! and after only a few days in the tank they are spawning!! yayyyyyy!!!!

She bullies him because she was in the tank first. But now that they are spawning make sure you have something to do with the fry. Almost everyone with cons ends up with way to many. So it's impossible to get rid of cons.

the fry are intended for feeders at about the 1/2 inch mark ^_^

seems they are done spawning...she let him do his business with the eggs and has now chased him off..and keeps him on the other side of the log but nothing to harsh..she is busy fanning and cleaning the eggs.

is it normal for the female to take over?.

there are no nipped fins or any of that.

The female will chase away the male if she feels he isn't needed. The males role is to keep other fish away and if there are none then she doesn't need him anymore. Add some dithers. Seems to help for most cichlids when this happens.

Dithers?......i have guppies...i have lots of guppies..would those work?

will there be aggression problems when the fry hatch if i don't do this?
