Counseling for the obsessed...

I still perform weekly water changes/gravel washes. Roughly, I do an aisle every day or 2. I use the UV to pathogenically separate the aquaria sharing the same filtration.

I've had aquariums for as long as I'm alive basically and have also engineered ways of making maintenance easy. Now 126 tanks - no (but I'm jealous Oddball...). At first I felt as though I should just wait until I finished the basement off but after having to sell my 300 and 150 to move it was killing me! The counseling is working...

I think I need to learn more time saving tips. Taking care of my eight or nine aquariums is sometimes too much for me. Granted one of them has a mysterious problem that I can't get rid of and the fish require some time consuming specialized care as a result.

So do you really have to manually do water changes to ALL 126 every week? Or is everything automatic?

My tanks receive a constant drip from large filtered holding tanks at the center of the hatchery. But, the gravel washing still has to be done manually. But, for me it's a Zen thing. The maintenance actually calms and centers things for me. It's time to think, not just work.

Yes, some people are able to maintain numerous aquariums. Possibly because they don't work much, don't have any other hobbies or interests and have found efficient methods to maintain them.

One way i cut down on water changes and such is plants and a decent clean up crew in your tanks...its amazing how much plants can help maintain water quality. I let my feeder breeding tank (20 gal) go for over a month as an experiment with almost no maintenance aside from feeding. That tank has many plants and a crew of about 10-15 ghost shrimp at a given time and runs a small emperor biowheel filter between the shrimp eating anything that falls to the bottom of the tank and the plants taking care of the toxins i was amazed that it made it over a month with no water change or maintenance needed without a spike in any of the parameters. Only thing that stopped the experiment was putting my 4 small angels in there so now im doing regular water changes on it again.
The rest of my tanks dont go that long without water changes and such, but the plants do cut down on it at bit in them too.

+1 its very calming :)

My sumps have pothos and lucky bamboo in them. Also, I inadvertently have gammarus living in my sumps. All of these help break down and process waste materials in the system. I can't keep plants in my tanks since they'll either be constantly moved or eaten.
