I once was yanked off a dock when a sea lion grabbed my crab net to steal the salmon head I was using for bait. Damn near froze.

  I've had the same thing happen to me!! Just I didn't fall in. :D

You don't have to bother measuring the gravid females- they're illegal in most, if not all, states.

I've been pinched a few times by lobsters while measuring them. Big females carrying eggs always pinch the hardest.

thats minor tis but a scratch

I work for a state agency, and was involved with sampling the commercial harvest of lobsters at the time. And yes, all berried or notched female lobsters are released.

I live in San Francisco and dungenous crab are only legal to be caught by fisherman, not commercial boats,at Pacifica Pier outside of the Golden Gate. There's usually 1 or 2 sea lions there robbing everyones hoop nets or box traps. It's really scary when you see your line start to move and when you try to lift it up sometimes the sea lion is in the hoop net and you see this big, black shadow coming up with the crab traps. Many times the sea lions rob you blind, eating the bait as soon as you put the trap in the water. They can eat all of your bait quickly and you soon run out in just 30 minutes. The Doctor.

worst thing thats ever happened to me was when i was freediving for lobsters off Ft. Lauderdale beach. got a huge one to come out of the hole and i came in behind him and instead of shooting back or something like they normally do, it turned, faced me, and reared up...needless to say, i still made a grab at him and w/o gloves, grabbing the front of a FL spiny lobster hurts. lol i ended up w/ a few gashed on my thumb and no lobster...last time i ever went w/o gloves

This isn't an accident but it made me feel like an idiot. I use a box type trap and each side has a swinging door so the crab can go in but can't get out. I usually do pretty good but I had to buy a new one because my old one was getting worn out. Well, I put my bait in a bait box in the middle of the trap and put it in the water. I waited 30 minutes and pulled it up. I did this about 3 times and didn't have any crabs in the trap. I thought, maybe there isn't much crab today. After the 4th time bringing the crab box up empty, I realized that the swinging doors were zip tied to the cage and couldn't open! :screwy: I wasted 2 hours putting the crab box in the water with no way for the crabs to get in!!! I'm glad no one saw me. Well, that taught me to always check my gear or I will waste my time. The Doctor.
