The day after his wife disappeared in a kayaking
> accident, an Anchorage man answered his door to find
> two grim-faced Alaska State Troopers.
>
> "We're sorry Mr. Wilkens, but we have some
> information about your wife," said one trooper.
>
> "Tell me! Did you find her?" Wilkens shouted.
>
> The troopers looked at each other.
>
> One said, "We have some bad news, some good news,
> and some really great news.
>
> Which do you want to hear first?"
>
> Fearing the worst, an ashen Mr. Wilkens said, "Give
> me the bad news first."
>
> The trooper said, "I'm sorry to tell you, sir, but
> this morning we found your wife's body in Kachemak
> Bay."
>
> "Oh my God!" exclaimed Wilkens. Swallowing hard, he
> asked, "What's the good news?"
>
> The trooper continued, "When we pulled her up, she
> had 15 twenty-five pound king crabs and 6 good-size
> Dungeness crabs clinging to her."
>
> Stunned, Mr. Wilkens demanded, "If that's the good
> news, what's the great news?"
>
> The trooper said, "We're going to pull her up again
> tomorrow.

The worst thing that has ever happened to me while crabbing was not cathing any crabs!

I had a near-disaster once. We were campimg out on a spit in Tillamook bay and had been crabbing with some success. I have a 14' Zodiac and a 25 HP Mercury 4-stroke that we were crabbing from. We decided to go out to the Jetties to fish for rockfish without first checking the gas...

We were about 200 yards from the bar with a strong ebb-tide when the motor died. Luckily I figured out we were out of gas before we hit the bar (It is almost always BAD). The tank has a bit of a divider on the bottom to act as a reserve, so we were able to tip the tank and get back into the dock on the fuel we had.

We have a farm, and things die. I hate to throw out anything, so we've gotten a lot of strange looks for the bait we use. A few examples:
Whole chickens, turkeys, etc. (Let the crabs pluck 'em!)
A skinned bobcat - I like wildlife, but it wouldn't stop eating chickens :(
Stillborn lambs (A little sad, but the crabs love it and the Sea Lions don't!)

Dungeness Rule!

I was one the dock and my uncle pushed me off and i had about 10 or 11 crabs pinching me had to use plyers to get them off and it hurt

I was helping out a preggo blue crab and she grabbed me.. I didn't want to hurt her so I got my friend to pry her claw open.. then she swung her other one around and got me other hand.. we got her off after a while, with all of her limbs intact(I was missing about half of my finger nail and a strip of skin about 2" long from my hand(which she took when she let go).
And when I was about 7 me and my family were crabbing, we had 2 5g buckets, one with a bunch of crabs and one full of water just for us to play in.. well I got the 2 mixed up and stepped in the bucket with about 15 crabs

And I've had a male about 7 1/2" across(point to point on his shell) slam both of his claws on my hand but he barely even pinched me.

then I had my 'pet' crabs :D
They were the ones we'd pull up that had no claws, so I'd keep them for a few months so their claws would grow back.. I got stabbed by on of their shell spikes.

all i can say is wow these storys have a lot of painful $hit in it

I feel so left out, no crabs in MN. Can we tell crayfish stories? LOL

lol, ya any crustacean caused pain.
