Sorry for your loss...

Sorry to hear man. Just lost my last one a few weeks ago.

It's truly a puzzle exactly what it takes to keep these things alive..... There's been hundreds if not thousands sold and how many have broke the 20" mark?

Mine seemed to hate WCs. Maybe I was doing too large of ones, but if any of them looked like they were developing the "Characin stuppor" a big ol WC would do them in. I just assumed my PH is just too high OR smelt is just a poor diet.

I'm at 11 in the freezer and am even more clueless now then when the 1st one died. I've made numerous threads and the only conclusion I can draw is either no one knows how to keep these things properly or those that do aren't willing to share thier secret. I'm about to close the book on keeping Armatus in captivity though, I could have had an Aimara paid for by now and chances are it would probobly never develop the ol Characin stuppor.

Maybe Hydrolycus just weren't meant for captivity. A FW Great White if you will. None of them seem to thrive.

My first Armatus did'nt respond well to water changes either. It would go through this period of gasping and pumping it's gills immediately after the change and it would last about an hour before he was breathing normally.

I never noticed my old Armatus acting weird during or after W/Cs.
Would you guys Armatus eat after W/Cs? Mine did. I would (Still do) do 50% W/Cs and add Prime. Maybe I never noticed?

I would have to agree with that, Armatus need really spacious aquariums in order to thrive and until I get one one day, I'm not wasting another armatus.

sorry for loss. I haven't had issue with armatus (yet) but have lost all scomb/tat randomly, with out conclusive reason - they stay healthy for months, some even to a year and suddenly go south. I too suspect water to be the issue. As well as crowding.

may be 24 - 7 drip systems instead of large WC may help.
